CMM Programmer

Job Overview

The CMM (Coordinate Measuring Machines) Programmer writes CMM programs based on the measurement requirements and designates any necessary CMM fixtures, tools, and accessories.  They also create and load the CMM program into the machine controller and verify its accuracy.   

Quality plays a significant role as the programmer needs to ensure that measurements are accurate and in line with design specifications.  
 

Key Job Responsibilities

 

Write/edit and maintain CMM programs with PC-DMIS. 

Train operators on CMM operation. 

Create and maintain database of CMM programs. 

Create reports from scans in Polyworks. 

Train inspectors on Metrascan and Romer arm operation. 

Create schedule for audit inspections of fixturing. 

Maintain audit report. 

Write/edit/maintain Romer arm programs. 

Work with Engineering to improve drawings/GD&T.  

Qualifications/Requirements

Required Skills

High School diploma or GED certification along with a two or four-year degree in manufacturing technology or a related field.   Minimum 3 years in related role with solid work experience preferably in quality inspection.  5 – 10 years of CMM Operation experience.  5 – 10 years of PC-DMIS Programming experience.  1 – 5 years years of Romer Arm experience.  5 – 10 years of GD&T experience.  1 – 5 years of training others on CMM/Inspection Operation.  Strong problem-solving, critical thinking and analytical skills.  Be able to accurately use a CMM to solve manufacturing-related issues and improve overall output for the company.  Must have 1 – 5 years of basic computer skills (such as Office 360).  Strong math skills required including using math formulas to determine the accurate measurements for a product or item and be able to input them into the CMM.  Communication is key in this role.  The CMM Programmer will regularly work with other engineering or inspection team members, shop floor employees, and upper management.  To perform the job well, must be able to effectively communicate findings in a way that is easy to understand and in a professional manner.  Detail oriented, self-motivated, and ability to multi-task. 

Preferred Skills 

1 – 5 years of Polyworks experience.  1 – 5 years of Laser/Metrascan experience.  1 – 5 years of CAD Modeling experience.  Additional Information
