CMM Programmer
Job Title: CMM Programmer II Job Description The CMM (Coordinate Measuring Machine) Programmer II is responsible for developing and maintaining inspection programs for Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMMs). This role ensures the accuracy of manufactured parts by utilizing precise measurement techniques and advanced programming software. The programmer interprets engineering drawings, creates measurement routines, designs or assists in the design of CMM programming fixtures, and collaborates with customers, metrologists, and quality engineers to maintain quality standards on production lines. Responsibilities + Analyze engineering drawings and specifications to develop comprehensive CMM inspection programs using specialized software (e.g., MCOSMOS, MiCAT Planner, PC-DMIS, Calypso). + Design and create measurement routines, including probe paths, feature definitions, and data collection strategies. + Optimize programs for efficiency and accuracy, considering machine capabilities and part complexity. + Set up CMMs with appropriate fixtures and probes according to established procedures. + Perform routine calibrations and verifications to ensure machine accuracy. + Troubleshoot machine errors and resolve programming issues. + Execute CMM inspection programs to collect dimensional data on manufactured parts. + Analyze measurement results against tolerance specifications and identify non-conforming parts. + Generate detailed inspection reports, documenting deviations and potential corrective actions. + Work closely with development, process, and quality engineers to identify inspection needs, resolve quality issues, and implement improvements. + Coordinate with production teams to ensure timely inspection of parts. + Provide technical support to QA Techs and Metrologists on program execution and troubleshooting. + Provide training to Metrologists regarding best programming practices. + Perform Gage R&R studies and other analyses to assess measurement system capability. + Perform first article inspections and process capability studies to support manufacturing and development. + Work independently with New Product Development, Process, and Quality Engineers to deliver programs and information on the measurement of parts and gages. + Perform engineering capability and stability studies. + Coach and mentor Level I & Level II Metrologists. + Lead metrology initiatives of high complexity. + Monitor emerging measurement technologies and recommend systems to improve overall measurement capabilities. + Determine root causes of measurement system failures and make appropriate modifications in accordance with company quality system requirements. + Assist with creating work instructions for the Quality Assurance Department. + Maintain quality inspection records. + Create and update inspection drawing criteria for new and revised components. Essential Skills + Bachelor’s degree. + Minimum 10 years of quality experience in a manufacturing environment or equivalent combination of education and experience. + Advanced knowledge of reading and interpreting blueprints. + Minimum 10 years working experience with GD&T. + Minimum 10 years’ experience in CMM programming. + Proficient in CMM programming software (e.g., MCOSMOS, MiCAT Planner, PC-DMIS, Calypso). + Ability to apply problem-solving skills to programming methodologies. + Knowledge of common quality methodologies, including: APQP, MSA, IQ/OQ/PQ, SPC. + Ability to work on multiple projects. + Strong manual and spatial dexterity skills. + Strong verbal and written communication skills. + Excellent interpersonal skills. + Strong organizational skills. + Ability to meet deadlines. + Thrive in a fast-paced environment. + Advanced knowledge of test method development and experience creating and implementing new and improved testing methods. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $36.57 - $55.28/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
