CMT Materials Engineer 3
**Position** : CMT Materials Engineer 3 **Location** : Dripping Springs, TX **Responsibilities include but are not limited to:** The Materials Engineer is responsible for reviewing construction materials test results such as Aggregates, Hot Mix Asphalt, Soils, Flexible Base, Concrete and Asphalt Binder to ensure materials meet project specifications and regulatory standards. The Materials Engineer is responsible for designing, testing, and ensuring the quality of materials used in the construction and maintenance of highways and transportation infrastructure. This engineer will oversee all laboratory operations and staff, providing general oversight and responsibility for staff and their efforts to complete materials testing for construction projects, pavement designs, concrete mix designs, HMA mixture designs, emulsion and foamed asphalt mixture designs, full depth reclamation and forensic projects requiring borings, Falling Weight Deflectometer, Dynamic Cone Penetrometer, in-place densities, and other various non-destructive testing. Materials Engineer will play a critical role in ensuring that roads and bridges are safe, durable, and able to withstand the demands of heavy traffic and harsh weather conditions. + Perform the Materials Engineer functions including overseeing laboratory manager and lab staff. + Select and test construction materials such as soils, flexible base, aggregates, HMA, asphalt binder, and concrete to ensure they meet project specifications and regulatory standards. + Develop and implement quality control procedures for materials used in construction projects. + Conduct lab and field tests to evaluate the strength, durability, and other properties of materials. + Analyze test results to identify potential issues and develop solutions to improve material performance. + Collaborate with other engineers and professionals to manage construction projects. + Ensure that construction materials and processes comply with safety regulations. + Managing budgets and timelines for materials testing on construction projects. + Provide leadership, mentoring and direction to laboratory staff. + Continuous evaluation of the laboratories’ strengths and weaknesses. + Actively work with Austin GM to develop synergies with common clients, work force, etc. + Work with Austin GM to develop relationships with new potential Client’s to maintain a steady backlog of work and increase the existing Client base. + Develop and maintain existing and past clients for future work. + Provide timely responses to all proposals that management determines are worthy of pursuing. + Supervisory responsibilities include conducting performance reviews. **Minimum Requirements:** + B.S. Degree in Civil Engineering + Texas P.E. is required with a minimum of 3 years of experience in materials engineering as a licensed professional engineer.Minimum of 10 years progressive experience with 3 or more years in management + Proven experience managing lab and construction materials testing. + Proven results in meeting internal or external client requirements for Scope, Schedule, Budget, and Quality. + Knowledge and experience leading, developing, and managing laboratories and projects requiring construction materials testing and inspection. + Excellent written and verbal communication skills and demonstrated ability to communicate across all levels of Atlas. + Highly organized, self-motivated and results driven with the ability to organize priorities and multi-task effectively. + Strong interpersonal skills + Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities. + Perform the Materials Engineer functions including overseeing laboratory manager and lab staff. + Select and test construction materials such as soils, flexible base, aggregates, HMA, asphalt binder, and concrete to ensure they meet project specifications and regulatory standards. + Develop and implement quality control procedures for materials used in construction projects. + Conduct lab and field tests to evaluate the strength, durability, and other properties of materials. + Analyze test results to identify potential issues and develop solutions to improve material performance. + Collaborate with other engineers and professionals to manage construction projects. + Ensure that construction materials and processes comply with safety regulations. + Managing budgets and timelines for materials testing on construction projects. + Provide leadership, mentoring and direction to laboratory staff. + Continuous evaluation of the laboratories’ strengths and weaknesses. + Actively work with Austin GM to develop synergies with common clients, work force, etc. + Work with Austin GM to develop relationships with new potential Client’s to maintain a steady backlog of work and increase the existing Client base. + Develop and maintain existing and past clients for future work. + Provide timely responses to all proposals that management determines are worthy of pursuing. + Supervisory responsibilities include conducting performance reviews. + Must have considerable knowledge and experience working with concrete, soils, base and asphalt pavement. + Experience providing contract administration and laboratory reporting. + Experience managing project inspection, material testing, and environmental compliance + Experience training lab staff and ability to develop SOP for in-house materials testing protocols. + Conduct project meetings with contractors, city governments and other project stakeholders + Assist with and prepare Client proposals and project presentations for RFP’s + Must have good driving record and a valid driver’s license. **Other miscellaneous qualities:** + Ability to perform in a high stress environment. + The employee spends most of the time sitting or standing in a comfortable position with ample opportunity to move about. + Must be able to lift 50 lbs. + Ability to read or interpret data as well as having the capacity to communicate (verbally and written) with both company and outside personnel professionally and effectively. + There is a strong emphasis on safety while working both in the office and in the field.
