The Denali Center CNA Trainee program is intended to provide the skills and knowledge required for students to pass the State of Alaska Certified Nurse Aide exam, and the position is temporary in length, for the duration of the program and/or until student passes State exam. This position provides competent patient care, promotes patient comfort, contributes to the overall patient plan of care, and reports all patient care activities and concerns to a licensed professional.
Earn as you learn in the classroom and on the job and become a CNA with Denali Center! We are seeking 8 individuals (per session) who want to join the Denali Center team and be paid while receiving on-site CNA training.
- The first 6 weeks at Denali Center, Trainee time will be spent in the classroom, completing instruction and practicing clinical skills.
- 40-hours a week working and training will be the expectation for Trainees.
- All class materials, licensing and application fees related to the CNA course are covered by Foundation Health Partners.
- At the end of the class, CNA Trainees will be ready to sit for the State of Alaska Certified Nurse Aide examination.
- Employment with Denali Center as a CNA for at least a year after certification is expected of participants.

Responsibilities CNA Trainee will complete all assigned classroom, coursework, and clinical hours. Provides daily living assistance and completes necessary tasks to promote patient health. Assists patients with basic hygiene needs, maintains optimum mobility levels, provides safe patient handling, O2, and infection control practices, assists patients with nutritional intake as needed, and provides end of life care. Collects patient specimens and data, including vital signs, glucose testing, input/output and other delegated measurements in accordance with unit/facility policy and standards of care. Assists in the transportation of patient specimens. Combined with education will develop the skills to recognize and report abnormalities and/or changes to the patient’s health status, as well as patient health responses from treatment of a licensed professional. Promotes continuity of care by accurately and completely communicating to other caregivers the status of patients for which care is provided. Performs procedures and uses equipment as delegated by a licensed professional, consistent with demonstrated competencies and state scope of practice. Provides necessary supplies, support and assistance to medical staff and patients for unit specific procedures, under the direct supervision of a licensed professional. Maintains a clean, orderly and well-stocked environment. Understands and incorporates long term care infection control standards into all aspects of daily work. May provide general support to the department, including greeting and assisting patients, visitors, providers, and ancillary personnel. May assist as needed with general receptionist and clerical duties in order to facilitate efficient functioning of the unit/department.
Performs all functions according to established policies, procedures, regulatory and accreditation requirements, as well as applicable professional standards. Provides all customers of Foundation Health with an excellent service experience by consistently demonstrating our core and leader behaviors each and every day.
QualificationsHigh school diploma/GED or equivalent working knowledge is required.
Basic Life Support (BLS) required within 30 days of hire, and is included in CNA coursework.
Requires proficiency in all competencies including end of life care, Alzheimer’s, and Dementia within first six (6) months of hire. Demonstrated ability to float to other areas of the facility is required within the first six (6) months of hire.
Must possess excellent organizational skills, as well as effective human relations and communication skills.
Working knowledge of medical terminology and computer literacy and keyboarding skills is required.
As is typical in this industry, variable shifts and hours, and on-call duties may be required.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Additional related education and/or experience preferred.
