CNC Operator

A Brief Summary of This Position:

The CNC Operator 9 position is an individual contributor. This person must be a highly driven individual that will program and operate the CNC Machines.

Essential Functions:

Read and interpret production drawings.Understand machine controls, program codes, fixtures and tool offsets, and CNC systems Use shop mathematics, including decimals, complex fractions, and simple algebra to lay out various products of the unit, and determining various cutting depths, feed rates, and revolution per minute.Uses measuring instruments such as a protractor, framing square, tape measure, tri-square, center finder, levers, scribes, calipers, and drill gauges to fabricate various products of the unit.Understand material requirements and specifications as stated on blueprints and drawings.Decide with learned solutions the sequence of set ups, operations, and processes within the limitations of recognized methods and procedures for completing work in process according to work schedules and constraint and shipping buffers.Load machine programs, as needed, specific to product orders.Maintain housekeeping in work area, and on all machines used.Perform operator preventive maintenance on equipment and informs supervisor and/or lead of any breakdowns or damage of equipment or parts.Read and interprets work orders and daily production schedules.  Writes entries on daily shop production labor report to show work completed.Be responsible for safety and environmental issues regarding assigned area.Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications of Every Candidate (Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities):

One year or more working in a fast-paced manufacturing environmentOne year or more CNC machining experienceThe ability to modify/execute simple CNC programmingThe ability to read, write, and communicate in EnglishThe ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divideThe ability to accurately read a tape measure and micrometerThe ability to read Valmont blueprintsThe ability to walk and stand up to 100% of the shiftThe ability to work in an environment with a high noise level

Highly Qualified Candidates Will Also Possess These Qualifications:

Three to five years of previous CNC machining experienceTwo years of previous experience working in a fast-paced manufacturing environmentTwo years of previous experience operating a forkliftTechnical training certificate and or degree in CNC machining The ability to communicate and interact with coworkers in a positive mannerThe ability to pay attention to detail and follow work instructions Must always have a high awareness for safety                                            Must be a person of passion and integrity who has the drive to excel and deliver exceptional results

Working Environment and Physical Efforts:

Ambient temperatures in work area coincide with seasonal weather changes.  Exposure to metal and smoke fumes due to surrounding processes.  Abnormal noise level throughout the shop requiring that hearing protection worn at all times.  Direct exposure to dirt, grease, mill scale, cutting fluid, rust inhibitors, and metal particles and splinters.

Incumbent will also be exposed to production facilities where specific PPE will be required such as hand, hearing, foot, eye, and head protection.  There will also be frequent exposure to outside elements for short periods of time.  Being outside will also expose them to material handling equipment such as forklifts, straddle trucks, and shag trucks.
