CNC Programmer / Machinist

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Develops and applies CNC fabrication processes on optical materials (glass, silicon, SiC) to manufacture ultra-precision components and systems. Programs CNC routines using GibbsCAM for the machining of complex structures and aspheric surface geometries.  Operates Haas and DMG-Mori 3, 4, and 5-axis machining centers to machine a variety of optical materials to precise specifications. Works with the design team to conceptualize and implement standardized tools and fixtures. Develops, sustains, and improves manufacturing methods to improve efficiency and yield. Coaches and trains junior technicians in CNC fabrication technical skills, methods, and programming.

Education/Work Experience

High school diploma is required. The ideal candidate will have completed 2 years of college or a trade school program. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 10 years of CNC machining and programming experience. Extensive knowledge of any commercially available CAM software – GibbsCAM is the standard used in our shop and is preferred, but this can also be learned on the job if the candidate has experience with another software platform. Understanding of GD&T tolerances and technical drawing interpretation. Knowledge of glass and/or ceramic machining is not a requirement but is a plus. 5-axis programming experience preferred but not required. Experience using macros, probes and tool setters a plus.
