Position: CNC Programmer / Manufacturing Engineer

Department: Manufacturing Engineering

Primary Objective of Position:

The CNC Programmer is responsible for defining, evaluating, and improving manufacturing methods and processes to optimize safety, quality, and efficiency through CNC programming, tooling and fixturing.

Major Areas of Accountability:

Generates CAM Programs for all CNC Mills, Lathes, and Plasma Cutting Tables. Partners with Operations and Manufacturing Engineering resources to develop multi-year investment strategies for upgrading existing assets or procuring new technologies. Leads the operations team on all Technical Machining issues, including equipment selection, CNC/Machine Programs, Tooling & Part Fixturing, and run speeds to meet production demands and communicated via machine set-up sheets. Active Leader for Continuous Improvements on all Metal Fab operations. Provides technical information and recommendations on manufacturing techniques / technologies. Maintain and update CAM software packages. Where needed, provide training to other personnel on Metal Fab topics and CAM software. Practices the principles, and participates in the Electric Machinery Safety and Continuous improvement efforts.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

2-year technical degree in CNC programing, CNC machining, CNC Lathe, or High School diploma/GED equivalent and 7 years equivalent work experience. 5 years’ experience with CAM Programming software (i.e., Gibbs CAM, Mastercam, Tebis) programming CNC machines including vertical and horizontal lathes & mills. Ideally experienced specifically with Gibbs CAM and ProNest). 5 years’ experience working in a metal fabrication production environment. Strong CNC machining background and experience in feeds and speeds of the machining assets. Hands on experience with CNC Machining, Lathes, and/or Plasma Cutting Tables highly desired. Skilled using SolidWorks and AutoCAD 2D to review designs to be fabricated. Strong ability to read and interpret drawings, blueprints, and technical instructions. Strong communication skills; articulating instructions to personnel, writing procedures, and developing and deploying manufacturing processes. Proficiency in computer skills, MS Office, and electronic data management.

Physical Requirements:

Must be able to life twenty-five (25) pounds unassisted. Routinely ascends/descends ladders and stairs Occasionally works at heights or on platforms. Occasionally positions self in various works spaces, including low, tight or confined spaces. Routinely remains in a stationary position, often standing or sitting for prolonged periods of time. Occasionally uses repetitive motions including the wrists, hands or fingers to operate computers, machinery or tools.
