Position Summary:
The CNC Universal Grinder, Advanced is responsible for performing grinding operations on external and internal surfaces of metallic components according to engineering drawings, specifications, or Job Instruction Sheets. This role requires a strong focus on quality, safety, and the ability to work independently on CNC programs to meet customer expectations.
Work You’ll Do:
• Determine machining requirements, dimensional specifications, and setup requirements from programs, process sheets, and blueprints.
• Set up and operate CNC Universal Grinders, including mounting and dressing the required grinding wheels.
• Write and edit CNC programs, select and prepare tooling, and grind tools to size as needed.
• Load CNC programs into machine control and set appropriate magnetic chucks or jigs to securely hold components for grinding operations.
• Conduct in-process and final checks using gauges and measuring equipment to ensure efficient production of quality parts.
• Observe numerical displays on control panels to verify dimensional adjustments, feed rates, and speeds or machining cuts.
• Perform minor preventative maintenance and troubleshooting as required, and notify the Team Leader or Lead Hand of any discrepancies or malfunctions.
• Provide guidance and training for apprentices and make recommendations for productivity and method improvements.
• Ensure compliance with ISO guidelines and follow Job Instruction Sheets and Tag Procedures.
Team: You will be part of a skilled machining team, collaborating with other machinists and support staff to ensure the production of high-quality components that meet customer and organizational standards.
Basic Qualifications:
• Proven experience in machining components to tight tolerances (3-5 microns) with a strong understanding of CNC operations.
• Familiarity with reading and interpreting engineering drawings, blueprints, and process sheets.
• Ability to write and edit CNC programs and perform setup and operation of CNC Universal Grinders.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining quality standards.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to conduct minor troubleshooting.
Preferred Qualifications:
• 5-10 years of experience in a manufacturing environment with a focus on grinding operations.
• Knowledge of ISO guidelines and quality control processes.
• Ability to provide training and guidance to peers and apprentices based on skill and experience.
Physical Requirements:
• Ability to stand for extended periods and perform manual tasks associated with machining operations.
• Capability to lift and handle materials and tools as required.
