Central to OCH&S’s mission is the Continuum of Support, which employs clinical expertise to develop and implement public health-informed strategies alongside public safety personnel. These efforts aim to prevent and respond to crises, ensuring Pittsburgh remains a safe and healthy city for all. The Co-Response Clinician (CRC) is a Masters-level position embedded in the Co-Response program. Reporting to the Social Work Manger , the CRC works directly alongside designated Pittsburgh Bureau of Police personnel to provide crisis intervention and support during emergent calls for service. This role is critical in bridging public health and public safety to address community needs in real time. Key Responsibilities: + Crisis Response and De-escalation: Respond to individuals in crisis, de-escalating situations to mitigate risks of harm and further deterioration. Employ evidence-based crisis intervention techniques in a manner that prioritizes safety and stability. + Needs Assessment: Conduct thorough, person-centered assessments to identify immediate safety risks and underlying needs. Collaborate with individuals to develop tailored plans that address their unique circumstances during and after crises. + Service Coordination: Connect individuals to appropriate resources , including mental health services, social supports, housing, and other community programs. Ensure continuity of care by coordinating follow-ups and referrals as needed. + Collaboration with Law Enforcement: Operate within a co-responder model, working closely with law enforcement personnel to navigate complex situations. Maintain effective communication and mutual respect to ensure a cohesive response to community needs. + Advocacy and Documentation: Advocate for individuals’ needs and rights, emphasizing empowerment and informed choice. Maintain detailed and accurate documentation of interactions, assessments, and interventions in compliance with organizational and legal standards. (Less than full-time experience will be calculated on a pro-rated basis.) + EDUCATION/TRAINING: The application must clearly show a Master of Social Work Degree (MSW) or a Master of Clinical Mental Health Counseling Degree (CMHC) from a fully accredited institution. Licensed Social Worker (LSW) or Licensed Associate Professional Counselor (LAPC) preferred. Therefore, no education/training and/or work experience may be substituted toward the qualifying requirements listed above. POSITION DUTIES + Adheres to and practices OCH&S values and principles, with a focus on harm reduction-based, person-first, crisis and trauma-informed principles. + Performs active response with Pittsburgh Bureau of Police Co-Response Officers during Officer’s scheduled shifts , intervening during mental and behavioral health crises and other calls for service, providing behavioral health support, crisis stabilization, and service referrals. + Assesses the biopsychosocial factors related to the immediate crisis and coordinates follow-up care and service referrals with program participants + Participates in case conferencing with internal staff, first-responder liaisons, and local agencies to provide effective support to program participants . + Facilitates referrals to other internal programs, such as Law Enforcement Assisted Diversion, Reaching Out On The Street, People In Need of Support, Post Overdose Support Team, and the Trauma Survivors' Assistance Program. + Documents program participants interactions and crisis calls in a detailed and timely manner. + Communicates with individuals and providers in person, via phone, email, or fax, to assess concerns and determine needs. + Collaborates with other public safety personnel, first-responders, and leadership as needed. + Performs other related tasks and duties as assigned or required .
