The Virginia Tech Coastal Collaborator seeks a creative, quick-thinking, and highly organized individual to serve as a Coastal Resilience Program Assistant. The Coastal Resilience Program Assistant works with the Coastal Collaborator Director to support a wide variety of internal and external coastal resilience activities and projects through the Virginia Tech Coastal Collaborator (VTCC) which is part of the Virginia Seafood AREC. This role also includes managing a USDA Research and Extension Experiences for Undergraduates (REEU) project, which involves coordinating student research experiences, mentoring relationships, and educational programming. The Coastal Resilience Program Assistant will represent the VT Coastal Collaborator at local resiliency meetings and Resilience Adaptation Feasibility Tool (RAFT) meetings and events. Examples of potential job tasks include enable and facilitate communications and logistics, conduct research about coastal resilience topics and write summaries, budgeting, scheduling and logistics, organize and maintain VTCC file systems, creating collaboration reports, design, create and maintain documentation and the web presence, event support, and occasional field work. The Coastal Resilience Program Assistant should be a quick learner with strong independent thinking and decision-making skills, writing skills, and have some background knowledge of coastal resilience and the adaptation economy, sea level rise and flooding issues related to Hampton Roads. The position reports to the Director of the Virginia Tech Coastal Collaborator and works closely with the Assistant Professor and Extensions Specialist Food processing engineering.
