Coating Shear Operator

Job Summary:

The purpose of the Coating Shear Operator is to be responsible for observing the carpet coming out of the oven for defects front and back, and shearing the carpet to the correct pile height. The operator is responsible for shearing to the standards given, so that the carpet has the correct appearance to the standard.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

Knowledge of proper operation of shearing machine to meet standards. Set shearing heads to cut the proper pile height on each style. Apply oil to the head belts to eliminate hot spots on the cylinders. Check the flocking lint bags. Empty when necessary. Keep machine lubricated. Clean area around machine. Instruct roll-up operator for correct quality numbers for FHA backstamp printer. Inspect for metal in the carpet when the metal detector stops the machine. Keep shear heads blown out and lubricated to ensure proper shearing operation.

Performance Expectations (if applicable):

Lifting is required of boxes, bags, and pallets weighing up to 40 lbs. 20 to 40 times per shift. Standing is required 50% of shift. Reaching is required of boxes, bags, and pallets 15 to 30 times per shift. Stooping is required 15 to 30 times per shift for intervals of 1 to 5 minutes. Bending is required for boxes, bags, and pallets 15 to 30 times per shift. Climbing of stairs and ladders is occasionally required. Must be able to use hand trucks 10 to 30 times per shift. Must be able to use wrenches 10 to 30 times per shift. Must be able to use scissors 10 to 30 times per shift. Must be able to distinguish colors and shades.

Experience/Education Requirements:

High school diploma or equivalent preferred. Must be able to read and write and do basic addition, subtraction, division, and multiplication in English. Computer knowledge or data entry skills are a necessary part of the job.

Other Requirements:

Overtime is required on occasion. All accidents/incidents must be reported immediately. Perform any other duties as required by management. Safety equipment must be worn when required and safety requirements followed in all areas. Report to management any safety, quality, or production issues while performing the job. Responsible for safety, quality and productivity of output.
