Job Summary: Coder 2-FPBO accurately assign diagnosis codes and sequence principal and secondary procedures based on documentation. Accurately assign appropriate modifiers based on payor type. Follow coding initiative (CCI) guidelines for optimal reimbursement. Current working knowledge of billing/auditing/collections for all payer types. Acts as a resource for the FPBO and physician groups answering coding questions. Performs other duties as needed.
Education and Experience: High School Diploma or GED required. Post high school education in Business English or Accounting preferred. Minimum two years of abstract coding from surgical reports experience.
Knowledge and Skills: Current working knowledge of billing/ auditing/ collections for all payer types. Must have current working knowledge of modern office practices and working knowledge of all insurance types and their guidelines. Must have working knowledge of medical billing/auditing/collection experience for all insurances and third party claims. Current experience with ICD9/ICD10 and CPT4 coding systems required. Experience on EPIC system preferred. Able to use a computer, printer, and software programs necessary to the position (e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint). Operate/troubleshoot basic office equipment required for the position. Able to work calmly and respond courteously when under pressure; collaborate and accept direction. Able to think critically; manage multiple assignments effectively; organize and prioritize workload; work well under pressure; problem solve; recall information with accuracy; pay close attention to detail; work independently with minimal supervision. Able to distinguish colors as necessary; hear sufficiently for general conversation in person and on the telephone, and identify and distinguish various sounds associated with the workplace; see adequately to read computer screens, and written documents necessary to the position.
Licensures and Certifications: Current Certified Procedural Coder (CPC), Certified Outpatient Coder (COC), or Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) Certificate required and must be maintained.
