The Home Health Coding Specialist assigns diagnostic and procedural codes using ICD-10-CM and CPT on health information records. Abstracts the coded data and other required information into the computerized information system for data collection/statistical and reimbursement purposes.
· Must have current accreditation or registration as an Accredited Record Technician (RHIT) or Registered Record Administrator (RHIA) or eligible.
· Must be a graduate of an approved Health Information Technology or Health Information Administration Program or equivalent.
· One (1) year experience preferably in a Medical Record Department.
· Must have the ability to communicate effectively and deal professionally with medical staff, department heads, professional and technical personnel.
· Must have knowledge of clinical pertinence evaluation methodology including data collection and display techniques. Must have good data management skills, understand basic statistical methods, basic clinical principles, and medical terminology.
· Must be able to deal professionally with extremely confidential information. Self-initiative is required. Must be able to do detailed work, being extremely quality conscience.
· Must have knowledge of CRT, keyboard functions and personal computer applications as the computer is used extensively in preparation of studies.
· Must have working knowledge of ICD-10-CM, and CPT-4, HBOC, encoder EPR, Microsoft Word, and Home Care abstracting system.
· New employees should be trained within their six-month probationary period.
