Job Summary:We are seeking a detail-oriented and dedicated Coder I to join our Health Information Management team. This role will focus on coding for laboratory and ancillary services, ensuring accurate and complete documentation and reimbursement for services provided. As a Coder I, you will assist with reconciling patient lists, discharge reports, and service documentation to guarantee that all charges are properly coded for lab and ancillary patient visits. Job Description: Key Responsibilities: + Review visit documentation for 1-2 outpatient and/or ancillary services (e.g., lab, non-interventional radiology, physical therapy, mental health outpatient, primary care, specialty care). + Accurately assign diagnostic and procedural codes based on the documentation, utilizing appropriate coding guidelines and clinic protocols. + Assign modifiers as necessary to ensure correct code sequencing and reimbursement. + Work collaboratively with healthcare providers and administrators to identify and clarify missing or incomplete documentation. + Ensure accurate and timely reconciliation of patient lists, census, and discharge reports to track services rendered. + Provide feedback and report on any coding discrepancies to appropriate providers or administrative staff. + Keep up to date with coding guidelines and best practices for lab and ancillary services to ensure accuracy in coding. Qualifications: + Certification by the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) or the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC) required. + Prior experience in medical coding, specifically for laboratory or ancillary services, is preferred but not required. + Strong attention to detail and ability to work efficiently under deadlines. + Knowledge of coding systems (ICD-10, CPT, HCPCS) and familiarity with modifiers. + Ability to effectively communicate with healthcare providers and administrative staff to resolve documentation issues. + Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to handle confidential patient information in compliance with privacy regulations.
