Coding Specialist
Responsibilities The Coding Specialist will accurately assign, edit, and modify diagnostic/procedural codes for all sites/locations in accordance with state and federal regulations, as well as organizational policies and procedures. The position will analyze charts, abstract data, and keep up-to-date on industry and regulatory changes and updates. Find opportunities to implement operational or systematic improvements. Essential to this position are strong organizational skills. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively interpret, communicate, and educate others. Analyze medical record content by licensed professionals and assign, edit, and modify appropriate diagnostic and applicable procedural codes, including sequence, based on state and federal regulations, coding ethics, third party payer requirements, and organizational policies and procedures. Maintain knowledge of coding/regulatory changes and compliance requirements for profession. Qualifications Required Qualifications: Associates degree or equivalent experience CCS, CPC, CCA, RHIT, or RHIA certification (if not currently, must complete within 6 months of hire date) Demonstrated knowledge of most current diagnostic and procedural coding terminologies Independent/Detailed-oriented Exceptional communication skills Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree Basic understanding of ASAM, DSM, and CPT terminologies Behavioral health coding experience Overview The Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation is the largest nonprofit addiction recovery organization in the United States.
