Job Summary
Duties include the monitoring and operation of material handling equipment, including but not limited to truck and rail car coal and limestone unloading equipment, conveyors, crushers, stacker / reclaimer, and dust collection equipment. May operate running locomotive, bobcat and end loader. General housekeeping and ash load out are also required job functions. Utility Operators will also be required to trouble shoot equipment and perform preventative maintenance. This is an entry level position for the Cogeneration plant. Preference will be given to candidates who are viewed to have the ability / interest to cross train and qualify for higher level operating positions
Essential Job FunctionsConsiderable knowledge of material unloading, conveying and dust collection equipment.Skill in making equipment adjustments and repairs.Training to monitor all DCS screens on a continual basis, noting all changes or discrepancies.Training to manipulate DCS control board and screens by targeting and making changes to set-points, out-puts, valves, etc. in order to keep various production conditions within specifications limits and parameters.Training to observe and acknowledge all alarm warnings on the DCS Alarm Screen and determine corrective actions to be taken in the control room or in the field to remedy the situation.Troubleshoots problems by investigation and inspecting all machine malfunctions and utilizes mechanical, chemical and other technical expertise to solve and eliminate problems.Works in teams by maintaining good communication and cooperation with other department operators and management in order to achieve efficient production processes in all areas.Communicates with control room and field personnel through the use of radio units in order to ensure efficient coordination both in and out of the control room.Training to know all equipment specifications and parameters in order to operate all systems.Performs LOTOTO and Confined Space procedures on various valves and machine equipment, suchRecords data and results on parameters charts, rounds checklist, log sheets and other related documentation, taking accurate notes on all figures, times, calculations and other system or operation information.Manually adjusts machines and valves such as butterfly, gate or ball valves in order to maintain process efficiency.Locates sources of trouble through multiple observation techniques such as sight, sound, taste, touch, and smell. Vision requirements include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.Starts machines and adjusts valves according to guidelines as outlined in the department Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’S).Completes CIP (Cleaning in Place) procedures on various equipment to ensure efficient functioning.Handles various chemical in assorted containers in the manner outlined in the manufacturer’s chemical Material Safety Data Sheet.Maintains awareness and adheres to all GMP, EPA, OSHA and employer standards and guidelines.Observes field temperature gauges, pressure gauges and flow meters to regulate and maintain required parameter and/or to verify DCS readings.Resets or energizes electrical panels located in Motor Control Center Rooms in order to restart equipment in a safe and timely manner.Suggests improvements in work methods and procedures by communication with area leaders, other operators or engineers and discussing recommendations of existing practices.Dumps chemicals into mixing tanks and turns valves to admit fluids to prepare solutions for various functions.Read and interprets Piping and Instrumentation Drawings to determine system or equipment location and lay-out.Attends respective departmental meetings in order to review and discuss production reports or other department and plant issues.Performs light maintenance on various department machinery such as filters, heat exchangers, valves, pumps and other equipment.Informs supervisor immediately of any hazards, unsafe equipment and/or acts. Additionally reports immediately and accidents, injuries and near misses to supervisor.Recommends solutions to correct deficiencies or improve work and operational practices.Participates actively in training.May perform reasonably similar or related duties as required.Education/TrainingMust Successfully complete all ADM Safety Certification requirementsMust pass the Co-Gen Aptitude and Skill Set Assessment testExperience Preferred:Good regular and prompt attendance historyExcellent safety record and awarenessPrevious plant/process experienceSpecial Skills
