Under the guidance of the Project Manager or Resident Engineer, the Intern will engage in a professional learning experience where an undergraduate or graduate student participant gains practical work experience, organization knowledge and business acumen related to construction management and civil engineering. Internships begin with orientation in June and conclude in early August. Intern will work 32 hours per week. Specific duties vary depending on the assigned department and business need. Performs duties in a safe, efficient manner and in compliance with all applicable rules and safety procedures.
Responsibilities and Specific Duties Assists in daily Project Management tasks such as estimating, scheduling and document control. Attends meetings with contractors and consultants and take meeting minutes. Follows up on action items, compile or exchange information and track issues. Assists in preparing and reviewing bid documents. Reviews drawings and specifications and provide feedback to enhance the contract documents. Reviews and processes submittals and RFI’s. Assists with database management tools such as Atser. Assists Project Managers and Resident Engineers with onsite representation and required follow up. Contributes to departmental goals and objectives. Suggests solutions to business issues and challenges. Assists in functional and/or business analytic. Gathers and scrubs data for analysis and reports. Assists with client consulting and support. Assists with procedures guide, presentations, training materials, etc. Contributes to a team-oriented atmosphere. Provides excellent customer service to METRO internal and external customers. Applies SMS (Safety Management System) methods and principles in daily routine and supports all aspects of the agency’s Public Transportation Agency Safety Plan (PTASP). Promotes safety awareness and follows safety procedures to reduce or eliminate accidents. Performs other job-related duties as assigned.Pay Rate: $20 per hour
Education RequirementEnrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program or a recent graduate (within 1 year) in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related degree program.
Years & Experience RequiredCurrently enrolled in an accredited education institution and have successfully completed 24 credit hours.
GPA of 2.7 or higher on a 4.0 scale.
Knowledge of construction management and design and/or civil engineering is required. May include one or more of the following: construction management, civil/structural engineering, and transportation planning or related curriculum.
