At Prestwick Service Centre we are specialists in the maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) of aircraft engine nacelle systems and engine components. We currently have a number of opportunities for individuals to gain a recognised trade within the aircraft industry by completing a Modern Apprenticeship.
Our apprenticeship program is tailored to develop outstanding apprentices who will obtain the relevant qualifications at college, whilst working onsite; fully supported to embark on their career journey to become fully qualified in the aviation industry as either a Mechanic Inspector, Tinsmith, Welder or a Spray Painter.
We have different entry requirements, to suit a variety of educational pathways and job roles and you must have passed these qualifications by August 2025 to be considered :-
Option 1
Can be considered for all roles; Mechanic Inspector / Tinsmith & Welder / Spray Painter
Nat 5 in
English
Mathematics*
PLUS any one of the following :-
Metalwork Nat 5
Woodwork Nat 5
Graphics Nat 5
Engineering Science Nat 5
Physics Nat 5
Design & Manufacture Nat 5
PEO in any specialism
Option 2
Can be considered for Tinsmith / Welder
Performing Engineering Operations (Fabrication & Weld SCQF level 5)

*Application of Mathematics is not acceptedThis is a true ‘earn while you learn’ opportunity whilst you are working onsite at Prestwick Service Centre. You will gain hands-on experience working directly with experienced and qualified employees to learn your trade, which involves working with various tools and materials, using technical manuals to inspect and repair aircraft components.
During the apprenticeship, you will work towards achieving an SVQ Level 2 and an NC (unless you already have these) whilst gaining valuable shopfloor experience.
You will then continue to build on your technical experience whilst gaining an Engineering Diploma or SVQ level 3. There may also be an opportunity to attend college on a day release basis to gain an HNC during your 2nd and 3rd year, with HND another additional option from 4th year.
You will need good communication skills, both written and verbal, be able to demonstrate basic practical skills whilst havnig a demonstrable interest in engineering and mechanics.
