COMMAND AND CONTROL SPECIALIST (Title 32)
Summary This National Guard position is for a COMMAND AND CONTROL SPECIALIST, Position Description Number NGD1892000 and is part of 114 FTW. This is a Title 32, Dual-Status position AREAS OF CONSIDERATION: All members of the South Dakota Air National Guard or those eligible to join. *NOTE* An AGR announcement will be posted concurrently Responsibilities As a Command and Control Specialist, GS-0303-08, you will: This position is located in an Air National Guard Aviation Wing, Operations Center/Command and Control Section (Command Post or CP) of an F-15 or F-16 Fighter Wing that supports North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) alert tasking to include homeland defense, air defense, and conventional missions. The purpose of the position is to: provide command, control, communications, and information support to the commander, Survival Recovery Center (SRC), Battle Staff (BS), and Higher Headquarters (HHQ), to include NORAD, Continental U.S. North American Air Defense Command Region (CONR), Sector Operations Centers (Western, South Eastern, or North Eastern Air Defense Sectors), major commands (MAJCOMS), and the state Adjutant General; and provide first line of defense as it relates to command and control duties and responsibilities during operational events. This position plays an integral part in mission execution involving aircraft and aircrews, as well as maintaining contact with aircrews during the mission. The command post operates on a 24/7 rotating shift operation, monitoring and carrying out duties which include: overall mission status of the base and its assigned units, base wide security, initiating emergency procedures, aircrew recall, base Crisis Action Team notification, and other duties critical to the conduct of the mission assigned to the wing. Through authority granted by the Wing Commander, employees are empowered to act independently, coordinating with the commander, in order to accomplish the mission or meet the emergency response. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED: This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the National Guard. Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform. Acceptance of an excepted service position constitutes concurrence with these requirements as a condition of employment. MILITARY REQUIREMENTS: Airman up-to TSgt may apply. Selected individual must be assigned to a compatible military position in the following AFSC upon date of hire: 1C371. Aptitude scores can be checked on the vMPF or at the Customer Service in the Force Support Squadron and physical profile in the medical squadron. Military grade inversion within the full-time work force is not permitted. The military grade of the full time supervisor must equal or exceed the military grade of personnel supervised. GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Administrative or clerical experience, education, or training which demonstrates the candidate's ability to perform the duties of the position. Experience using computer and automation systems. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Must have at least 12 months experience in the interpretation and application of regulations, procedures or laws. Experience that provided a working knowledge of administrative functions. Experience demonstrating the ability to advise lower graded employees. Experience working independently and setting priorities with very little supervisory control. Knowledge, Skill, and Abilities (KSAs): Applicants are strongly encouraged to submit a separate sheet(s) addressing the Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs) and how they relate to work experience, education or training. Knowledge of and skill in applying an extensive body of Air National Guard (ANG), NORAD, ACC, and local Command Post regulations, methods, and procedures to perform a wide variety of command post assignments and to handle a wide range of problems and situations. Knowledge of the mission, organization structure, and the role other agencies play in the successful completion of the Wing's mission. Knowledge of and skill in maintaining security of all classified information to include voice communications and hardcopy materials, as well as security of the command post facility. Knowledge of FAA flight planning requirements and regulations in order to review, submit, and/or coordinate flight plans concerning domestic and international flights.
