The Engineering Productivity team within Commerce Engineering is tasked with creating an environment where Cisco IT engineers can deliver the best work of their lives. We achieve this by focusing on the end-to-end engineering lifecycle of Build, Test, Release and Operate. We have a range of tools, techniques, platforms and frameworks that we use to remove friction and accelerate the Build → Test → Release → Operate cycle.
Your Impact
A Commerce Engineering Solution Architect in our Engineering Productivity team plays a crucial role in connecting the Cisco IT engineering community with our engineering platform teams. This enables our engineering teams to excel at delivering business value. They will collaborate with engineering staff at all levels to promote best practices, share knowledge, eliminate obstacles, and enhance the developer experience across the engineering community.
They are responsible for helping shape the future technology direction of Engineering Productivity, assisting leadership establish strategic engineering platform and tooling roadmaps, driving priorities to meet objectives, and making scalable and sustainable architectural decisions for strategic themes.
They also have a strong track record of growing and influencing others, working with all levels of senior and executive leadership, and fostering the psychological safety and happiness of members of their team.
Key responsibilities include:
Capture and share engineering standards and best practices Create and foster collaborative relationships with engineering teams through chapters, guilds and internal communication platforms Identify and drive solutions to friction points and obstacles to engineering productivity Drive strategic engineering productivity roadmaps Identifies the balance between the immediate and long-term impact of technical direction and guides the organization to execution in this balance Be a technical, architectural, and career development mentor for other engineers Publish technical documentation using Atlassian Confluence suite for standards, best practices and tutorials Lead with an experience and design mindset to help create a best-in-class developer experience at Cisco IT Be a leader with vision and strategic problem solver for ~450 Cisco IT Engineering teams and communicate with intent Mentor other technical talents to build a strong talent pipeline Drive tough conversations and collaborate to bring best solutions forward for CiscoMinimum Qualifications:
Bachelor of Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or related quantitative field 15+ years of engineering experience in Java, Javascript, Python, SQL or other related languages Demonstrated end-to-end Solution Architecture across multiple domains Strong DevSecOps skills including hands on experience delivering CI/CD platforms, infrastructure as code, logging/monitoring/alerting solutions Hands on experience delivering solutions within public cloud hosting environments Critical thinker and problem solverPreferred Qualifications
Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to influence -- using simple communications that convey complex concepts in a compelling, concise, and creative way 3+ years of demonstrated experience delivering productivity outcomes to engineering teams in dynamic large scale digital organizations.Interact with IT partners and leadership to understand business requirements for enhancing the engineering experience across all phases of the software development lifecycle and collaborate with team members to explain new processes/toolsExpertise in applying multi-layered technical expertise to understand and advise on architectural implications for next generation IT initiatives (such as code generation using AI based tools e.g. Github Copilot)Hands on practitioner experience with large scale Oracle DevOps, architecture, tools and processes
