Commercial Diving Safety Officer

Position summary: JMT’s Trenton, NJ Underwater Inspection team is seeking a full or part-time Commercial Diving Safety Officer. This individual will be responsible for overseeing JMT’s commercial diving operation for compliance with our safety program and Dive Manual. It is preferred that this position also be capable of fulfilling the role of diver/tender on an as needed basis. 

Essential functions and responsibilities: 

Maintains a strong knowledge base of commercial diving industry standards that include both Surface Supplied Air and SCUBA mode diving physiology, equipment, and appropriate techniques to ensure compliance.  Knowledge and practical application of ADCI and OSHA standards/protocols. Performs thorough checks of all diving equipment to ensure it is functioning properly prior to dives. Maintains database of diving equipment and ensures compliance of documentation, testing and recertification schedules. Performs occasional field audits of dive teams to ensure compliance with documented protocols. Competent in the use of commercial diving equipment to complete underwater dives. Must be proficient in commercial diving program procedures with emphasis on diving safety. Team-oriented individual committed to achieving group goals Will review and interpret engineering plans, design drawings and inspection reports prior to commercial diving operations. Will assist in commercial dive operations of underwater inspections for construction, of bridge, and/or other marine structures to ensure compliance to plans and codes. May assist in recording all inspection data and completion of inspection reports. Some field work may be required, which could be scheduled and performed during nights and/or weekends. Will be responsible for reporting any medical problems or symptoms experienced by the dive team members during or after the dive. Will be responsible for reporting any equipment issues, other potential hazards, near misses or accidents. Actively observes and acts in an appropriate manner related to safety.
