Role

The Commercial HVAC/R estimator evaluates the scope of proposed heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration projects to develop a comprehensive cost estimate. In this role, you assess labor and material costs, providing a detailed description of the requirements for customer review. Estimates primarily focus on HVAC/R service, repair, and replacement of systems and equipment.

Responsibilities Analyzes project specifications and requirements to develop accurate and detailed cost estimates for HVAC/R service, repair, and system replacement projectsDevelops and applies HVAC/R knowledge to build accurate estimatesand bid estimates for outside project salesReviews project blueprints, technical drawings, and other documentation to understand the full scope of the HVAC/R projectCalculates the costs of labor, materials, and other project-related expenses and ensures estimates reflect current market conditions and pricingConducts product selections and take-offs based on plans and specifications and creates proposals for customers for all projects (to be bid as product specified or as alternate)Compiles and submits comprehensive bids for HVAC/R projects, ensuring all necessary components are included and accurately pricedWorks closely with project managers, contractors, and other necessary stakeholders to ensure estimates align with project goals and specificationsStays updated on industry trends, pricing, and new technologies to ensure estimates are competitive and reflect current standardsMaintains organized records of all estimates, bids, and project-related documentation for future reference and complianceProvides ongoing communication with customers, suppliers, sub-contractors, etc.Determines customer’s opportunities, needs, constraints, and responsibilities to meet all of the customer's HVAC/R system design and installation needsDevelops relationships with multiple buying influences in the customer's organizationPromptly and accurately responds to customer needs by identifying systems, products, generating quotes and closing ordersProvides a high level of internal and external customer serviceCustomer relationship management (CRM) activities and taskingOther related duties, as assigned Qualifications

 

Extensive knowledge of relevant construction codesExtensive understanding of HVAC and refrigeration systemsStrong ability to interpret HVAC/R plans, customer specifications, and bidding requirementsStrong project budgeting abilitiesStrong time management skills and consistent punctuality are essential to ensure reliable performance and meet operational requirementsStrong ability to follow directions and collaborate well with othersStrong ability to perform under the pressure of deadlinesProficient in computer use, phone communication, and organizational skillsExcellent interpersonal and communication skills for effective interactions with customers and staff, both written and verbalSkilled in customer liaison and communicationEffective time management skills, with the ability to complete tasks accurately and on scheduleKeen attention to detail and capability to handle multiple tasks, prioritize effectively, and meet deadlinesComfortable working both independently and as part of a teamMust be flexible with scheduling to accommodate customer needs, including the ability to work outside regular business hours as required 

 

 

Education and Experience

 

3+ years of HVAC/R service, repair, replacement and estimating experienceExperience in HVAC Industry or other service businessPreferred combination of HVAC field experience, education, and estimating expertiseHigh school degree or equivalentPreferred BS/BA degree from a four-year accredited university or college Physical Requirements
