The role
As a Commissioning Engineer, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. To support Submarine Commissioning Group growth, we are recruiting for roles at all levels across Mechanical, Electrical and Constructive disciplines. 


A background in submarine engineering is not essential, we are looking for individuals with transferable skills from a wide range of engineering/technical backgrounds.  


In preparation for their role, successful candidates will undertake a comprehensive training programme. We will train and develop you to become a subject matter expert in commissioning and submarine systems. 

 

Day-to-day, you’ll be supporting commissioning activities to ensure the systems perform to the highest standards of safety in your discipline (Mechanical, Electrical or Constructive (Naval Architecture)   

 

Inspection, testing and commissioning of submarine systems. Carrying out fault finding diagnosis and proposing and implementing corrective solutions where required. e.g. visual inspections, pressure testing, system flushing, equipment and system operations, electrical preoperational checks, insulation resistance checks, load testing Design and implementation of safe isolations to allow intrusive work to take place on submarine systems in accordance with safe system of work management arrangements. Researching and compiling technical documentation to support commissioning activities and deliverables. Within this safety critical role, a Commissioning Engineer reports to their manager and is responsible for adhering to the Health and Safety at Work regulations and conforming to appropriate engineering quality and nuclear standards. Providing direction and supervision to industrial staff where relevant.

 

This role is full time, 35 hours per week and is based on site at Devonport Royal Dockyard 

 

Essential experience of the Commissioning Engineer

Extensive experience in an engineering role/discipline (Electrical, Mechanical or Constructive). Experience of using technical system drawings and associated documentation. Ability to work to a consistently high standard in a dynamic environment. Good planning, organisation and time management skills.

 

Qualifications for the Commissioning Engineer

Completed a recognised Level 3 or 4 Qualification/Engineering Apprenticeship Degree in an Engineering discipline

 

We will consider candidates with Level 2 qualifications, substantial engineering experience and a willingness to learn for Assistant Commissioning Engineer roles (Band 3) with a view to progress to the role of Commissioning Engineer in the future.

 

Security Clearance
The successful candidate must be a sole UK national who is able to achieve and maintain  Naval Nuclear Propulsion Information (NNPPI) security clearance for this role.
