Position Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled and organized Commissioning Manager to join our projects team specializing in the deployment of utility-scale Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS). The Commissioning Manager will be responsible for overseeing the entire commissioning process, ensuring that BESS installations meet operational requirements, safety standards, and performance targets. You will work closely with project managers, engineers, contractors, and clients to ensure the successful transition from construction to fully operational systems.
Essential Functions
Commissioning Management: Lead and manage the commissioning activities for utility-scale Battery Energy Storage Systems, from planning through to operational handover. Ensure all systems are tested, commissioned, and optimized in line with design specifications. Test Planning and Execution: Develop detailed commissioning plans, procedures, and schedules. Oversee the execution of electrical, mechanical, and control system tests, ensuring all components function correctly and meet project performance criteria. Coordination and Communication: Collaborate with project teams, subcontractors, and vendors to align commissioning activities with overall project timelines. Coordinate with key stakeholders to ensure all commissioning requirements are understood and met. System Troubleshooting: Identify and resolve issues that arise during the commissioning process. Conduct root cause analysis for any failures or performance shortfalls and implement corrective actions. Documentation: Prepare and maintain detailed records of all commissioning activities, including test results, issue logs, and system configurations. Ensure accurate as-built documentation is created and provided to the client. Handover and Training: Facilitate the transition of completed systems to the operations team or client, providing necessary training and documentation to ensure smooth ongoing operations. Ensure all commissioning documentation and certifications are completed and handed over as part of project closeout. Compliance and Safety: Ensure that all commissioning activities adhere to relevant safety standards, regulations, and industry best practices. Manage site safety during commissioning activities and ensure all team members comply with safety protocols. Continuous Improvement: Provide feedback and insights from commissioning activities to improve future projects, enhance procedures, and optimize system designs.Other Responsibilities
Professional Engineer (PE) license or equivalent certification.
Experience with renewable energy projects and grid-tied systems, including solar and wind energy integration. Knowledge of specific battery technologies (e.g., Lithium-Ion, Flow Batteries) and their applications in utility-scale storage solutions. Experience with SCADA systems, energy management systems (EMS), and remote monitoring platforms. Prior experience with Top Tier 1 BESS Providers Prior experience with Utility Scale Solar (Advantage) Language Skills: English – Fluent Spanish - (Advantage) Hebrew – (Advantage)Education, Experience, and Skills Required
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical field. 4+ years of experience in commissioning management, preferably in the energy sector with a focus on utility-scale projects. Strong knowledge of Battery Energy Storage Systems, power conversion systems, energy management systems, and grid interconnection. Experience with testing, troubleshooting, and validating electrical and mechanical systems. Excellent project management and team leadership skills, with a track record of successfully delivering projects on time and within budget. Familiarity with industry standards, codes, and regulations (e.g., NEC, IEEE, IEC) related to energy storage and electrical systems. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to manage relationships with clients, contractors, and team members effectively. Ability to travel to project sites during the commissioning phase (60% Travel).Physical Requirements
Must be able to work in an office environment. This job requires sitting and/or standing for long periods of time with moderate bending, stooping and kneeling. The ability to work at a computer and computer monitor for long periods of time and stay alert.
