Southwire Job Description

Job Summary/Objective: 

This is a corporate-based position with the primary responsibility of creating long term strategic relationships

with an appropriate supply base to support meeting the financial objectives of the overall business. The

incumbent is responsible for leading cost control and cost reduction activities associated with the acquisition

of packaging and material handling equipment. Those details include, but are not limited to, supplier

selection, supplier negotiation on price, delivery, payment, product details, expected product quality and on-

time delivery expectations. This position will also maintain a positive work atmosphere by behaving and

communicating in a manner that gets along with the supplier network, customers, clients, and all levels of co-

workers.

 

 

 

Key Responsibilities

· Conduct market analysis to identify the lowest total cost supplier for a given product or product

family and create long-term buying agreements which minimizes the total cost.

· Strategically negotiate the details associated with the purchasing of packaging and material

handling equipment (pallets, shrink film, reels, forklifts) and other goods and services as assigned.

· Manage forklift lease agreements working closely with banking institutions, finance and Site

Leaders.

· Actively participate in and assist in the development and implementation of company-wide

sourcing initiatives.

· Provide product quality and service feedback to our suppliers with an expectation of continuous

improvement.

· Support our strategic working capital objectives by striving for extended payment terms and

reduced order quantities.

· Support continuous improvement activities at all manufacturing, distribution centers, and

administrative locations through our strategic sourcing initiatives

· Support sales programs and the related manufacturing activities by expediting products, as

necessary.

· Track commodity price trends and provide this information to the organization as required.

Certificates: Prior experience in a Supply chain role for a manufacturer. Previous direct purchase responsibilities for commodities (copper, PVC, rubber, reels, etc.) and services. Strong technical acumen
