Job Description

The Commodity Trader is responsible for buying and selling scrap metal commodities based on market predictions. With a working knowledge of the latest market trends, the commodity trader accurately assesses the value of different types of metal. Reporting into the Commercial Sales Manager 

Essential Duties:

Tracking the domestic and international markets to support advantageous outcomes of the purchasing and selling of commodities.Collaborating with internal trading teams to produce competitive pricing for clients.Accurately able to inspect and identify various types of metals such as copper, aluminum, brass, stainless steel, and iron.Responsible for purchasing ferrous and non-ferrous scrap metal from outside sources, such as scrap yards, to sell directly to clients.Investigates new potential sources of consumers of scrap metal.Buys from retail, dealers, light industrial customers, repair shops, demolition projects, clean-ups, etc.Build relationships with clients and understand their specific needs and requirements.Develops the growth of business activities and profit with assigned accounts.Maximizes all opportunities in closing a deal, resulting in the taking of market share from competitors.Provide solutions to companies to improve and maximize scrap recovery.Responsible for meeting or exceeding buying/sourcing quotas.Process requests for price quotations, purchase orders, order changes, adjustments, and cancellations directly with vendors and manufacturers.Negotiates with suppliers on price, payment, and shipment terms and contracts to optimize cost-effectiveness.Maintains frequent communications with suppliers for updated lead time and inventory info for proper planning.Keeping accurate records of relevant activities.

Qualifications

Job Knowledge, Skill and Ability Preferences        

Must have working knowledge of ferrous and non-ferrous scrap metals.Must have strong sales skills and strive to develop long-term customer relationships.Excellent verbal and written communication skills, telephone etiquette and computer knowledge.Maintain knowledge of market factors that scrap metal price movements.Must be able to negotiate prices, service and terms with both customers and carriers.Must have strong organizational skills and the ability to multi-task.Must display strong motivation and resourcefulness; be self-motivated.Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software.Willing to work different shifts and travel up to 50% of the time.Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
