The Permanente Federation LLC (the Federation) is the national leadership and consulting organization for the eight Permanente Medical Groups (PMGs), which, together with the Kaiser Foundation Health Plans (KFHP) and Kaiser Foundation Hospitals (KFH), comprise Kaiser Permanente. The PMGs employ nearly 24,000 physicians, approximately 90,000 nurses, other clinicians and staff, and provide care to over 12.6 million Kaiser Permanente members. The Federation works on behalf of the PMGs to optimize care delivery and advance Permanente Medicine – medicine that is patient centered, evidence based, technology enabled, culturally responsive, team delivered, and physician led. SUMMARY: 


We are seeking a Communications Consultant with a passion for creating high-quality, impactful content across a variety of platforms. This role focuses on producing and delivering engaging content for digital programming (website and podcasts), public relations, communications, and social media to amplify The Permanente Federation’s voice and thought leadership. The Communications Consultant will work as part of the External Affairs, Communications, and Brand (EACB) team and, reporting to the Senior Director of Comms and PR, will excel in crafting compelling narratives, managing content production, and ensuring alignment with organizational goals.  


The ideal candidate will have a solid background in journalism, with strong writing, editing and critical thinking skills. Public relations and strong social media experience is a must. Additional experience includes an independent and solution-oriented work style; the ability to develop compelling and engaging approaches to storytelling; and ability to rapidly generate content. 


Essential Responsibilities:
• Works with Senior Director, Sr. Content Manager and Sr. PR Manager to develop, write, and edit engaging content for multiple channels, including websites, press materials, social media, podcasts, and digital campaigns.
• Handles a full range of content development tasks in an autonomous manner in support of Federation initiatives and thought leadership campaigns, including public relations, digital properties (web content and social media channel updates), podcasts and other related channels.
• Serves as an ambassador for the Permanente Medicine brand through messaging and imagery to external audiences. 
• Advocates for and presents rationale for creative choices and recommendations.
• Supports EACB in development of various reporting initiatives and serves as “super-user” to help train and maintain EACB team’s optimal use content development tools and software 
• Reviews and edits a wide range of communications, including articles, PR comms, social media posts, e-newsletters, and EACB internal/external messaging to ensure excellence in content. 
• Collaborates with the Sr. Content Manager to ensure editorial style, brand compliance, and consistency. 
• Assesses and writes appropriately for audience, tactic, purpose, and message, in alignment with the Permanente Medical Groups’ mission, vision, and values.

Basic Qualifications:
Experience
• Minimum five (5) years of experience in communications in a health care organization or other corporation.
• Minimum two (2) years of experience writing for or managing social media and digital properties.
Education
• BA degree in English, Journalism, Communications, Marketing, Health Care Administration, or related field.
License, Certification, Registration
• N/A


Additional Requirements:
• Minimum five (5) years of progressive communications in corporate communications working on behalf of executives.
• Professional demeanor and demonstrated ability to work with C-suite executives and senior leaders
• Excellent written English, including spelling and grammar.
• A meticulous approach to work and an eye for detail and experience balancing multiple projects.
• Mastery of AP Style Guide or other similar style guides. 
• The ability to maintain high-quality work while meeting tight deadlines


TRAVEL & JOB LOCATION:
• Travel as required (approximately 5% of the time)
• Position will be remote with HQ in Oakland, CA.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: 
General office environment: Work is generally sedentary in nature, but may require standing and walking for up to 25% of the time. The working environment is generally favorable. Lighting and temperature are adequate, and there are no hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc. Work is generally performed within an office environment, with standard office equipment available.

Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience with multispecialty medical group practice or integrated health systems.
• Experience or understanding of using content management systems such as WordPress and social listening platforms such as Hootsuite.
• Bachelor of Arts or Master’s degree or equivalent in English, Journalism, Communications, Marketing, Public Policy, Public Health, or field related to health policy.
