MITRE’s Survivable Communications Systems Department has an excellent opportunity to be part of a dynamic technical team having substantial impact on the design and development of next generation DoD communications systems. Our work focuses on Satellite Communications (AEHF, other MILSATCOM, Commercial), High Frequency (HF) and Very Low Frequency (VLF) communications in a benign and Nuclear environments.
We are seeking a Communications Engineer with skills that span a range of topics such as RF design, developing and securing hardware, firmware, embedded software, modeling and simulation, digital signal processing and communications. Digital signal processing algorithms for communication systemsDevelopment of Ground and Airborne Satellite communications terminalsDevelopment of Beyond Line of Sight (BLOS) communications terminals in HF and VLF frequenciesCommunications Systems EngineeringRoles & Responsibilities:
Supporting communications systems development and analysis by designing and analyzing innovative waveform components such as synchronization, forward error correction, spread spectrum technologies, medium access control, channel equalization, interference cancellation, etc.Documenting and providing recommendations for improvements to communication systems including areas such as system resilience, networking, electronic warfare, capacity, etc.Designing and verifying real-time signal processing modules for a FPGA implementation of next generation military communication receiversUsing software defined radios to implement communication protocols or performing signal analysisInvestigating optimal quantization strategies for digital receivers in the presence of adverse channel conditionsDeveloping code to interact with custom hardware peripherals to provide status and control interfaces to higher-level software on a complex SoC prototypeEvaluating system designs and architectures to ensure requirements for communication systems are metBasic Qualifications:
Typically requires less than 1 year of related experience with a BS, MS, or PhD degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Systems Engineering or related discipline; or equivalent combination of related education and work experience.Experience with C++, Python, Matlab, or other modeling toolsInterested in components and techniques used in communication systems (e.g., modulation theory, error control coding, receiver design, embedded software, wireless protocols, channel equalization, algorithm development, information theory, detection and estimation, etc.)Experience with data analysis and field or lab testing equipmentInterested in solving problems in a multidisciplinary team to provide solutions to complex problemsExhibits the characteristics of a continuous learnerAbility to obtain and maintain a DoD Top Secret/SCI clearanceThis position has an on-site requirement of 5 days a week on-sitePreferred Qualifications:
