The AARP Puerto Rico Team is looking for you! Puerto Rico is aging rapidly, and at the municipal level, we need to create specific plans and actions to align our resources and services to improve people's lives as they age and help build a better tomorrow for future generations. This paid internship has an anticipated start date of Spring 2025, with an option to continue throughout the year. Responsibilities Craft clear, engaging, and persuasive content for various platforms, including press releases, social media posts, and newsletters Research policy issues, draft communication copy to support our advocacy and community outreach efforts, participate in team meetings and strategy discussions, collaborate in communications tactics, and engage in a support role for various remote and in-person events Create, schedule, and analyze social media content to engage AARP’s audience and promote its initiatives Effectively use communication tools and software, such as content management systems, social media platforms, and graphic design tools Lead or contribute to special projects as assigned Qualifications Pursuing a degree in communications, marketing, journalism, or related fields The ideal candidate will be currently enrolled in a degree program at an accredited college or university, be considered a rising undergraduate junior or senior, graduate student, or post-doctoral student, and remain academically enrolled throughout the internship Ability to build and maintain relationships with media contacts and understand how to pitch stories and handle media inquiries are key aspects of the role Must be a self-starter and adaptable, with the ability to work under tight deadlines Ability to manage multiple projects, anticipate project needs, discern work priorities, learn and manage technical systems and processes Digital content creation skills, including clean and concise writing Technical proficiency in Microsoft Office programs, CANVA, and social media channels (X, Instagram & Facebook, YouTube) Being bilingual is required AARP will not sponsor an employment visa for this position at this time. Additional Requirements Regular and reliable job attendance Exhibit respect and understanding of others to maintain professional relationships Independent judgement in evaluation options to make sound decisions In office/open office environment with the ability to work effectively surrounded by moderate noise Ability to occasionally lift up to 25 pounds Hybrid Work Environment AARP observes Mondays and Fridays as remote workdays, except for essential functions. Remote work can only be done within the United States and its territories. Compensation and Benefits The hourly range is $18 for undergraduates, $21 for graduate students, $28 for Ph.D. candidates. Internships are non-exempt positions and are not eligible for employee benefits.
