Location: Remote first work environment with occasional travel and in office meetings.

How the Communication Manager contributes:
The Communications Manager partners across the organization to develop and implement internal and external communications for the CDA family of companies (CDA, CDA Foundation, TDIC and TDIC Insurance Solutions). CDA is a recognized leader in the oral health space and across the organization we have compelling stories to share to support our mission and strategic plan goals. This role will support development of enterprise messaging strategies and will own how those messages and stories are tailored for various audiences with special emphasis on staff, leaders and the media/public.
The ideal candidate has a strong network, knows what makes a good hook, has a knack for adapting writing tone and style for various stakeholders and enjoys identifying spokespeople and setting them up for success.
Cross Functional Collaboration/Relationship & Message Development
+ Support Director, Brand & Creative in creation of enterprise level messaging frameworks and philosophies; including facilitation of the development, maintenance and sharing of organizational “fast facts” and position statements on key issues
+ Build strong partnerships with program/product owners to support the development of key messages
+ Participate in (and often lead) departmental and cross functional meetings
+ Connect regularly with content producers to ensure alignment of organization wide messaging
Media and Public Relations Strategy and Execution
+ Provides media and public relations planning for the organization through thoughtful connection with key internal stakeholders; includes collaboration with CDA Public Affairs team on participation in coalition work
+ Partner with key stakeholders to identify external/agency resource needs and serve as a point person for those relationships
+ Serves as lead communications representative for the organization in interactions with the news media; identifying points of contact and spokespeople based on topic
+ Coordinates, supervises and participates in research, writing and the dissemination of all news releases, speeches, presentations and related communications
+ Conducts outreach to mainstream and trade media in support of on-going public and member information needs
+ Coordinates the development of earned media extensions to marketing programs/campaigns to extend reach, amplify key messages and solidify CDA’s position as a leader and influencer in the profession
+ Keeps pace with evolutions in media relations/earned media best practices and recommends changes in communications philosophy and policy when such changes serve the best interest of the organization in support of strategic goals
+ Provides media training, key messages, talking points and presentations for volunteer leadership, members and staff to represent the association and organization as spokespeople
+ Serves as internal lead on keeping a pulse on dental influencers and thought leaders and supports strategy development for how to harness both influencers and peer-to-peer word of mouth
Employee and Leadership Communications
+ Partners with internal stakeholders to plan, develop and implement employee communications – includes coordination of content for CDA all-staff meetings and newsletters – to ensure employees are pacing with priority initiatives and able to connect how their individual contributions support the organization’s goals
+ Oversees employee intranet, helping to ensure pages and information are up to date and well organized. Manages intranet home page and all pages related to staff news posts in collaboration with internal partners. Manages and provides support for page administrators, including coordinating access permissions with IT and training new admins on SharePoint.
+ Drives strategy and develops content for CDA’s leadership email, the Executive Bulletin, and employee newsletters.
+ Provides support for leadership communications, including speeches, PowerPoints and other projects
+ Builds structure and supports development of tools to empower staff and leaders to be champions for CDA
+ Provide staff and leaders with training and tips for how to leverage their social and digital presence to amplify CDA strategies and messages
Reporting/Performance Tracking and Budget Management
+ Collaborates with key stakeholders to identify KPIs for assigned programs
+ Facilitate the development of tracking mechanisms and reporting tools for assigned programs to both inform program evolution and report on performance
+ Collaborates with internal partners to track and manage expenses for assigned program areas
Minimum Qualifications:
+ 5+ years’ experience with significant demonstration in communications planning, content development and stakeholder engagement
+ Demonstrated experience and confidence presenting ideas and plans to all levels
+ Skilled writer across formats and content types with ability to gather feedback judiciously and exercise sound judgement in applying edits
Preferred Qualifications:
+ Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, public affairs or journalism
+ Ability to take information and create an effective communications’ approach (messaging, channels and messengers)
+ Ability to work as a member of a high-performance, multi-tasking team
+ Skilled at seeking clarity where there is ambiguity
+ Inquisitive mindset with knowledge of current and emerging media trends and a constant drive to stay up to date on industry developments
+ Experience working in a professional or non-profit association
+ Experience managing external agencies
+ Demonstrated experience managing ambassadors/spokespeople
+ California based strongly preferred
