Job Description:

Content creation and impact communications

Produce quarterly content plan to enable efficient content gathering that feeds into the WVSS’s content planning processProduction of at compelling stories with quality photos/videos that can be used for donor reporting, marketing, advocacy, and brand positioning on emergency flood response and disaster risk reduction activitiesRegularly visit to project areas to document project milestones and produce compelling stories that can be used in a variety of ways for different audiencesOversee the production of case studies, reports, publications, and audio-visual collaterals around disaster management – preparedness, response, recovery, anticipatory action, climate change impacts, etcWork with Media Engagement and Brand Communications Officer in ensuring all WV materials adhere to WV protocols and practices for protection of children and other vulnerable groups

Context analysis, risk monitoring and assessment

·       Monitor climate-related trends and patterns that can help inform development and implementation of organisational activities, response operations, and advocacy messaging and efforts

·       Monitor context issues and proactively share information for prompt decision making.

Prepare briefing documents and position papers on DRR, disaster management, anticipatory action, climate impact issues

DRR and Emergency communications support

Support the project team in developing and executing communications plans for community-based disaster risk management, including effectively communicating early warning systems, ensuring voices of vulnerable groups, including children, are captured and amplifiedCoordinate and facilitate media engagement during emergencies, including draft social media updates, key messages and press releasesDeploy to emergency responses to provide communications support as the need arises

Reporting and knowledge management

Facilitate and coordinate the development of reports, including situation reports, during emergenciesProduce and keep up-to-date communication materials and a photo library with project photos.Share publication, information and knowledge with colleagues, clients and partners.Prepare communication materials as required for events, mission travel and/or discussion with partners.Participate in relevant Working Groups or coordination mechanisms and provide necessary World Vision inputs.Collaborate with relevant support services units to lead and manage the production and deployment of relevant resources, including booklets, briefing notes, posters and banners, through service providers such as audio-visual production companies, as well as printing and translation companies as required.

Communications skills training

Conduct emergency communication skills training among staffProvide strategic communications support in capacity building activities of the WV South Sudan National Disaster Management Team

Required Professional Experience

- Bachelor’s Degree in Mass communications and any other relevant discipline.

- Proficient in writing and copy-editing communications and media materials, photography, basic video skills, and design work;

- Minimum 3 years of professional experience in media and communications, journalism, and /or public relations in a multi-cultural, child-focused, non-profit/corporate, and/or humanitarian organization.

- INGO experience is highly desirable, knowledge of local culture & language is preferred though not mandatory.

- Advance Computer literature, able to use video software with strong Ms Office package skills.

- Must be a South Sudanese National.

- Proven multi-partner management skills, especially to engage at a strategic level with senior government, UN and INGO officials especially in a fragile context or emergency setting.

- Evidence of high level written and spoken English language abilities.

Preferred Knowledge and Qualifications

- Understanding of humanitarian relief, recovery and development work i.e. triple nexus in fragile contexts.

- Excellent networking, relationship building and people management skills.

- Excellent spokesperson skills.

- Solid research, reporting, policy analysis and writing skills.

- Strong journalistic skills, ability to facilitate the collection of photo, video, story and social media resources.

- Ability to work in difficult, insecure and stressful conditions.

- Demonstrated ability to think strategically, manage to plan and meet deadlines.

Prior experience with World Vision is a distinct advantage.
