This posting may be used to fill this vacancy which is located within Louisiana State Police, Crisis Response – Region 1 in East Baton Rouge Parish.
NOTE: This vacancy may be filled as a probational or promotional opportunity.
This position is shift work, rotating days and nights, to include weekends and holidays. This is a dispatch position with the use of a radio to communicate with Troopers and DPS Officers. All radio traffic is typed into the Computer-aided Dispatch Software (CAD) while answering phone calls from the public and other law enforcement agencies requesting assistance.
Preferred skills include: a high level of multi-tasking and proficient typing skills.
In addition to biweekly salary, the newly hired incumbent will also receive shift differential pay in the amount of $3.20 for each hour worked outside of normal business hours of Monday through Friday 8:00 to 4:30.
No Civil Service test scoreis required in order to be considered for this vacancy.

Minimum Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Two years of the required experience for the following minimum qualifications must have been on-the-job experience in transmitting and receiving messages by radio:
Three years of experience in transmitting and receiving messages by radio or clerical work; OR
One year of training in a business or clerical-related curriculum in a business school or technical institute plus two years of experience in transmitting and receiving messages by radio or clerical work; OR
Thirty semester hours of college training plus two years of experience in transmitting and receiving messages by radio or clerical work.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
All persons appointed to this job will be required by the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) and Louisiana State Police Terminal Operator Certification Program Guidelines to meet the terminal operator certification/re-certification requirements within six months of employment.
An applicant who has been convicted of a felony or who is under indictment on a felony charge will be disqualified until relief from the disabilities imposed by state and federal laws is granted.

To supervise Communication Officers who receive and respond to requests from enforcement officers/agents through telecommunication equipment. Acts as the point of contact with the general public for emergency situations, accidents, complaints, etc.

Direct from a higher-level manager or administrator.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED:
Direct over Communications Officers. Other reporting relationships may be approved by SCS.

Differs from Communications Officer 3 by the presence of supervision exercised.
Differs from Communications Officer Manager by the absence of regional managerial responsibilities.
Examples of Work

Assigns daily work tasks of lower-level staff.
Receives and responds to informational requests by officers/agents.
Locates and coordinates compatible radio channels for use with the agency and the FBI when required for safety and security in accordance with Federal regulations.
Receive, analyze, prioritize, and respond to general public complaints and inquiries. Alert the nearest officer/agent, dispatch to location, and relay the information.
Search, enter, modify, and delete computerized records for vehicle registrations, driver licenses, other licenses, wanted felons, missing persons, unidentified persons or bodies, stolen property, etc. in the appropriate computer database.
Maintain proper record keeping and update desk log during communications.
Trains all lower-level Communication Officers.
Notify key governmental agencies and the Chain of Command of any extreme situations involving officers/agents.
Approves messages that may be sent nationwide.
