Position Description
OCCUPATIONAL SUMMARY
Operates the telephone switchboard to relay incoming and outgoing telephone calls.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Maintains current hospital telephone directory listings and numbers for information purposes. Receives and screens incoming calls from outside hospital, and assists callers in making connections with desired patients. Operates public address system to page authorized personnel, announces visiting hours, and makes other general announcements. Monitors various hospital emergency alarm systems, and immediately notifies appropriate personnel when alarms occur. Operates beeper system, and communicates with Security on two‑way radio system. Acts as answering service during evenings and nights for several physicians and departments. Performs other miscellaneous functions such as implementing “bomb threat” or “disaster” plans as necessary, and maintains door keys for emergency situations. Performs any of the duties and responsibilities of the Information Receptionist, as required. Practices proper safety techniques in accordance with hospital and departmental policies and procedures. Immediately reports any mechanical or electrical equipment malfunctions, unsafe conditions, or employee/patient/visitor injury‑accident to Manager.Position Requirements
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES/LICENSE OR CERTIFICATION REQUIRED
Six (6) months prior experience as Communications Systems Operator or Call Center, Customer Service, Switchboard, Receptionist. Must have ability to maintain composure during contacts with callers. Must have pleasant telephone voice, and be able to work closely with other operators.KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES/LICENSE OR CERTIFICATION PREFERRED
