Community Health Summer Non-Clinical Intern
This position will have the opportunity to play an active role in the community health collaborative groups that address strategies and tactics to improve LaGrange County’s top three health priorities, which are 1) mental health/substance use/suicide, 2) obesity, 3) child abuse & neglect. There will be an opportunity to conduct research and engage with community partners to accomplish the implementation goals of the collaborative groups. The student will be given the opportunity to spend time job shadowing within Parkview Health to further explore their career choice in healthcare. The student will have the opportunity to work on projects that will make a difference in the community we serve. This position will be assigned two primary projects to champion over the summer internship period: Farmers Markets – This individual will be responsible for covering a farmers market each month in one of the three locations they are held. In addition, they will coordinate with community partners and hospital staff to cover markets. Further, they will be asked to put together 1-2 community education projects that can be used to teach the public around one of LaGrange County’s top health priorities. Health Promotion – This individual will be responsible for helping to communicate programs and services on the LaGrange County Community Health Facebook page. In addition, they will be asked to update / work on the website to keep information current and functionality of the website easy to navigate. We are look for a specific skillset for this internship. Top on the list is a skilled communicator, ability to work independently, strong interpersonal skills, time management, critical thinking, takes initiative to think creatively on potential projects and ideas, organized, proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Word and PowerPoint. Knowledge of Facebook and Canva a plus. Additionally, this is a day shift position but there will be times when help is needed on Saturdays or in the evenings. Hours can be flexible. When working a weekend, a weekday will be given off. Prefer 40 hours but can be less if needed. This internship position would be ideal for a student pursuing a degree in Community Health, Health Promotion & Wellness, PT, Dietitian, Public Health, RN, Marketing, Health Science, Health Education, Sociology. Must be a current undergraduate college student or graduate college student. Specific educational focus or degree may be preferred depending on the hosting department of the internship. Specific license and/or certification may be preferred depending on the hosting department of internship. GPA of 3.0 or above Submission of Cover Letter Resume and Letter of Recommendation. Other qualifications may vary by department of internship.
