OCL offers a broad range of programs and services for Colorado State University students, faculty, staff, and the community in areas of education, outreach, and support that are designed to build life skills, promote dialogue, and foster a safe, respectful, and inclusive community. Off-Campus Life’s purpose statement: All CSU students need and deserve a strong foundation, a stable home and supportive community. Position Summary The Community Liaison Specialist plays a critical role in developing and enhancing strategic partnerships across the University and the City of Fort Collins in order to foster positive relationships between students and community members residing in Fort Collins neighborhoods. The position is responsible for focusing on collaborative efforts between the City and CSU involving problem-solving, communication augmentation, program development and management, and regular interaction with students, residents, and University and City staff. The position works on enhancing the town-gown partnership at the local level, focusing specifically on neighborhood engagement efforts, and engages in national and international conversations and partnerships around town-gown best and next practices. Some evenings and weekends are required. Required Job Qualifications + Bachelor’s degree in conflict resolution, communication, public relations, public administration/policy, community planning, education, human development, or related fields. + Three (3) years full-time professional experience in program planning and project management, implementation, and evaluation that specifically relates to community building/organizing. (Two-years graduate assistantship at 20 hrs./wk. equals one-year, full-time professional experience). + Demonstrated experience teaching, facilitating, or leading classes, workshops, or trainings. + Demonstrated experience cultivating partnerships with a wide variety of constituents (university students and administrators, community members, city administrators and representatives, police, community partners, etc.). + Experience working in a university setting and/or a municipal government. Preferred Job Qualifications + Master’s Degree in Student Affairs/Higher Education, Conflict Resolution, Counseling, Psychology, Public Administration/Policy, Community Planning, Education, Communications, Public Relations, Journalism or related field. + Demonstrated commitment to and experience in working with diverse populations. + Demonstrated conflict resolution experience (mediation, facilitation, etc.) and/or counseling experience, including experience building relationships and understanding various group dynamics. + Demonstrated knowledge and ability to navigate political landscapes; act diplomatically while handling complex relationships and projects. + Demonstrated proficiency in written communication skills such as reports, proposals, professional correspondence, presentation content and materials, etc. + Strong interpersonal skills, including one-on-one support, working on a team, and interacting with a wide range of community constituents. + Demonstrated understanding of unique University and City concerns, issues, and relationships. + Demonstrated ability in the management and recruitment of volunteers. + Experience in public relations and marketing. + Knowledge of local policies, codes, and ordinances. + Demonstrated experience with fiscal, personnel, and risk management. + Supervision experience (i.e. paraprofessional, graduate, professional). Essential Duties Job Duty CategoryOutreach, Collaboration & Communication Duty/Responsibility + Manage and participate in relevant aspects of University and City activities to improve City/ CSU relations and neighborhood quality of life issues. + Work with University and City staff in support of community vitality and quality of life within neighborhoods. + Identify, develop, maintain, and enhance partnerships between City/ CSU staff and offices to recognize and advance common goals specific to the role/scope of work + Act as a conduit to help establish and direct positive relationships with students and non- student residents. + Gather information and perspectives from students, non-student, and residents to assist the City and CSU in decision making and community building. + Attend, actively participate in, and/or facilitate appropriate meetings for the City, CSU , neighborhood groups, boards, collaborative task forces, and public forums. + Prepare appropriate and timely responses and reports for City and CSU leadership upon request; proactively provide leadership with updates and information on projects. + Help coordinate and create targeted communication that enhances outreach efforts with student and non-student residents, including use of social media (Twitter, Facebook, Nextdoor, etc.), media (press releases, articles, etc.), and website. + Research and maintain current knowledge of community-related issues and resources available on campus and in the Fort Collins community as well as internationally- recognized best practices in building town-gown relations. + Develop strategies and advice for resolving specific problems and requests, coordinate effective communications and educational campaigns, and provide exemplary customer service.
