Provides culturally appropriate directly observed therapy (DOT) to patients with Tuberculosis utilizing language-specific interpretation when necessary. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS One (1) year of experience working with clients in a health related field. Must be able to read, write, and speak English and one other language. A valid Driver’s License accepted by the State of Utah is required at the time of hire. A valid Driver’s License issued by the State of Utah must be obtained within six (6) months of hire to operate a County vehicle. Due to the nature of this position, the successful applicant must pass a required background check through fingerprinting and enrollment in the continuous RAP Back (Record of Arrest and Prosecution Back) program in accordance with current County Human Resources policy requirements. It is mandatory that all new hires receive the Tdap (Tetanus, Diphtheria, and Acellular Pertussis) vaccine before beginning employment or provide a copy of their immunization record prior to starting employment. The immunization record must show the vaccine name and date received. Upon hire, a two-step Tuberculosis skin test will be required. The first will need to be placed prior to starting employment. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS + Observes clients with tuberculosis taking their medication at home, work, school, or in the office. + Builds a relationship with the client and family that fosters communication, confidence and compliance with medication and treatment plan. + Observes for adverse effects of medication and health complaints by asking medical-related questions and reports findings to the PHN. + Acts as a liaison between the client and PHN and communicates all findings. + Provides and maintains medical documentation regarding assignments. + Assists the PHN in identifying best use of incentives for client to complete treatment for TB. + Provides written translations for a wide variety of written materials including letters, medical informational literature using appropriate terminology and applying appropriate literacy level to reading audience. + Provides non-English-speaking client education regarding TB, color blindness and skin testing, and other infectious diseases. + Provides testing and counseling to persons exposed to tuberculosis in a variety of community, business, institutional and home settings to identify and reduce transmission of tuberculosis. + Assists PHN in contact tracing, evaluation, testing and case investigations. + Provides education to community partners on tuberculosis as needed. + Delivers and picks up laboratory specimens as needed. + Picks up medical records and x-rays from hospitals and physicians in community. + Complies with all Department standards and protocols to assure safety and good work practices for staff and clients, especially keeping in mind various work-related risks. Includes sitting, standing, bending, and lifting. Will be required to work on occasion while wearing a protective mask over mouth and nose. Will require use of personal protective equipment. Will be required to work with laboratory samples of body fluids (ie, blood, sputum, urine, and stool). IMPORTANT INFORMATION REGARDING THIS POSITION This position requires travel throughout Salt Lake County; It is a community outreach position and requires the employee to independently conduct home visits at patient houses or worksites. This position works Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
