Works with the Community Engagement and Information team and other ACSO staff to connect with community members, schools, organizations, and businesses to provide education and outreach to increase community participation in safety and crime prevention efforts. This position is located at the Ada County Sheriff’s Office, Community Engagement & Information Unit.
SHIFT INFORMATION
Typically Monday thru Friday, but must be available to flex time working some evening and weekend events.

Essential Functions
+ Coordinates presentations and displays to include crime prevention and safety discussions at community meetings and at other events, as directed;
+ Participates and assists in developing, promoting, coordinating, and presenting crime prevention and public awareness campaigns, activities and educational materials for neighborhoods, schools, community groups, and businesses;
+ Maintains a working relationship with community members and groups to keep Sheriff’s Office staff informed of meetings, concerns, trends, and areas of public interest;
+ Manages and facilitates Neighborhood Watch program;
+ Researches and develops new data-informed crime prevention programs to improve or increase community outreach;
+ Prepares literature and visual aids for crime prevention events, programs, and presentations;
+ Writes materials for diverse audiences;
+ Proofreads and edits content developed by others;
+ Manages the ACSO's Nextdoor presence;
+ Prepares and disseminates internal ACSO newsletter.
ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS
+ May be required to perform special projects on behalf of the Sheriff’s Office to include, but not limited to, crime prevention and community engagement events or public relations;
+ May be required to assist PIO and Executive Assistant on special projects relating to crime prevention, safety, etc;
+ May be required to attend other events and meetings to support the ACSO, such as career fairs, special topic symposiums, graduations, etc;
+ May be required to speak at public forums and interact with the public on matters concerning crime prevention, Sheriff’s Office policies, and law enforcement activities;
+ Performs related duties as required.
Job Requirements
+ Must have a high school diploma or equivalent;
+ Undergraduate degree or experience in communications, marketing, or related public relations fields is preferred;
+ Knowledge of effective community outreach practices;
+ Knowledge and skills in creative desktop publishing, production, and editing;
+ Knowledge of video and photo production skills a plus;
+ Knowledge of event planning experience is a plus;
+ Knowledge of online accessibility is a plus;
+ Knowledge or experience with WordPress a plus;
+ Skill in conducting informational briefings and presentations to community and governmental groups;
+ Skill in problem-solving;
+ Ability to connect with and engage diverse groups of staff, community members, and organizations;
+ Ability to effectively use social media tools including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, electronic publications, basic HTML and web-based platforms;
+ Ability to create attention-grabbing content that delivers useful, easy to understand, visually engaging information for diverse audiences;
+ Ability to plan, coordinate, and execute multiple projects and events with competing deadlines;
+ Ability to make verbal and written presentations effectively;
+ Ability to promote community policing services;
+ Ability to use interpersonal and communication skills to maintain effective working relationships with Sheriff’s Office employees, other agencies, and the general public; and
+ Ability to be self-directed.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
+ Must appear before an oral board and successfully complete a polygraph and background check;
+ Must be available to work some evenings and weekends;
+ This position has been designated safety sensitive and therefore the incumbent is subject to random drug testing.
Work Environment & Physical Demands
+ Work is performed primarily in an office environment and the employee in this class is subject to inside environmental conditions;
+ May be required to lift up to 20 lbs.;
+ Requires sufficient personal mobility and physical reflexes, which permits the employee to function in a general office environment to accomplish tasks.
