Complex Liability Subrogation Specialist

What you will do:

The Complex Liability Subrogation Specialist is an important team member within the Claims department, as you will work to identify and pursue potential avenues of recovery on Liability claims, including Auto, General Liability, and Professional Lines. Methods of recovery include Arbitration Forums, Collections Agencies, Litigation and/or Court Restitution. Working collaboratively with the Liability Claims teams, you will identify situations where assignment of experts are warranted, communicate the need for scene preservation, and secure paperwork that will preserve our rights to recovery.

Key responsibilities:

Identify and pursue all potential avenues of recovery on any viable claim. Pursue subrogation recovery from all appropriate parties who are legally liable for damages via Arbitration Forums, Collections Agencies, Litigation and/or Court Restitution. Work with the assigned Liability specialist(s) to identify situations where assignment of expert(s) is warranted, to communicate the need for scene preservation, to coordinate examinations in a manner that prevents any potential spoliation of evidence, and to secure paperwork that will preserve our rights to recovery (ie. Contribution Claims). Assign files to Subrogation counsel as warranted, providing instructions, claim file materials, discovery responses, requesting updates/status reports, communicating demands/offers, and taking any other action that is warranted to advance the file status. When necessary, travel to and attend court mandated events, including but not limited to: Arbitration(s), Mediation(s), Settlement Conference(s), Pre-Trial Conference(s) and Trial. Investigate and review all claim activity, and if necessary, direct Liability specialists to determine Utica National’s coverage/liability/damage position & obtain any other outstanding documentation related to the adjustment of the claim. Identify all potential avenues of recovery on any given claim through analysis of comparative fault. Gather payments, supports, data, and other relevant materials in support of any subrogation claim. Adjust, negotiate, and settle subrogation claims within prescribed authority. Consult direct supervisor on all decisions which require waiver of subrogation rights and pursuit. Request checks in settlement of subrogation claims. Maintain a strict diary on all active files. Document clear and specific notes in the claim file for all active subrogation claims. Attend training to become a Certified Arbitrator through Arbitration Forums, hear cases as a panelist. Performs other duties as assigned. Conforms with all corporate policies and procedures.

What you need:

Bachelor's Degree preferred or Equivalent work experience. Minimum of 6 years of experience with adjusting third-party liability claims (ie. one or more of Auto BI, General Liability, Errors and Omissions, etc.); More than 2 years of experience with handling Subrogation involving third party liability claims.

Licensing

Required to obtain your license(s) as an adjuster in the state(s) in which you are assigned to adjust claims. Licensing must be obtained within the timeframe set forth by the Company and must be maintained as needed throughout your employment.

Salary range: $71,590 - $100,000

The final salary to be paid and position within the internal salary range is reflective of the employee’s work experience, their geographic location, education, certification(s), scope and responsibilities in the role, and additional qualifications.
