Compliance, Global Banking & Markets-Public Compliance – Digital Assets, Vice President
Global Compliance Our division prevents, detects and mitigates compliance, regulatory and reputational risk across the firm and helps to strengthen the firm’s culture of compliance. Compliance accomplishes these through the firm’s enterprise-wide compliance risk management program. As an independent control function and part of the firm’s second line of defense, Compliance assesses the firm’s compliance, regulatory and reputational risk; monitors for compliance with new or amended laws, rules and regulations; designs and implements controls, policies, procedures and training; conducts independent testing; investigates, surveils and monitors for compliance risks and breaches; and leads the firm’s responses to regulatory examinations, audits and inquiries. You'll be part of a team with members from a wide range of academic and professional backgrounds, such as law, accounting, sales, and trading. Digital Assets Compliance within Global Banking & Markets – Public Compliance (“DA Compliance”) We are seeking a highly motivated Compliance Officer to support regional Compliance coverage in the US for the Firm’s Digital Assets business. Digital Assets is a multi-disciplinary team within Global Banking & Markets - Public focused on the defining and executing Goldman Sachs’ distributed ledger technology (DLT) and blockchain efforts Firmwide, including cryptocurrency-related products. Digital Assets covers a wide spectrum of initiatives in the digital space. Compliance is seeking an outstanding individual to play an integral part in defining and executing the firm’s Compliance strategy for Digital Assets and the emerging regulatory and risk environment. The DA Compliance Team is responsible for assisting with business, regulatory and compliance-related matters in an evolving regulatory space. In addition to working collaboratively with fellow team members and global counterparts in Compliance, the candidate will regularly interact with Business leads across functions, Broader Compliance teams and collaboration other Goldman Sachs departments, including Legal, Internal Audit, Finance, Operations, Technology and the Conflicts Resolution Group.   

In addition to providing Compliance coverage for the Digital Assets business, this role has a cross-divisional mandate coordinating Firmwide Compliance approaches to Goldman Sachs’ blockchain and cryptocurrency efforts across a range of commercial areas of focus, including: capital markets activity using blockchain technology on GS DAP®, crypto-linked trading products and content, using blockchain technology for the firm’s collateral mobility, utilizing digital money solutions across transactions, and managing a portfolio of strategic investments in blockchain infrastructure companies. There is scope for this role to expand and specialize depending on candidate’s skillset.

Responsibilities would include:

Serve as a key control-side point of contact for Digital Assets Compliance-related matters in the US and as part of the global Digital Assets Compliance team focused on Compliance, regulatory and reputational risk of Digital Assets activity. Develop a deep understanding of various Digital Assets technologies to identify and assess novel risks related to Digital Assets activities. Understand cross-business and cross-regional risks and impact, providing creative Compliance solutions as well as developing Firmwide networks.Partner with other Teams to develop and/or enhance system controls, including surveillances and associated procedures and training relating to Digital Assets personnel and activities.Collaborate with stakeholders across the firm to understand their businesses in the Digital Assets space and leverage Compliance assets and colleagues to manage nascent and existing risks. Analyze new or amended laws, rules and regulations to formulate practical solutions to industry-wide issues through internal channels and Trade Associations in areas with novel and evolving regulatory framework subject to material regional divergence. Assist with regulatory examinations, audits and inquiries.

Preferred Qualifications:

Vice President or equivalent Level.Minimum of 7 years of experience in Compliance, preferably with some exposure to Digital Assets. Bachelor’s degree, preferably in a financial and/or technical discipline or Legal background.Preferable to have good working knowledge of blockchain, DLT or Digital Assets or previous experience managing Risk and Compliance controls related to Digital Assets, including conducting risk assessments and development of controls.Inquisitive and proactive in identifying novel risks and proposing solutions. Innovative mindset, identifying areas of control enhancements and automation which have practical value. Ability to translate novel regulatory requirements into practical guidance and action plans for the firm, keep pace with changing and novel regulatory environment.Good interpersonal skills and excellent communication skills with a focus on effective teamwork as part of a global team and ability to build strong relationships with key stakeholders across functions and regions. Ability to influence other stakeholders and effectively perform challenge function, evolving the status quo; continuously enhancing the control environment. Strong analytical skills to understand complex workflows and the ability to articulate issues to a diverse group of stakeholders via influential presentations, metrics, and reporting.Proven project and time management skills, including the ability to prioritize multiple initiatives simultaneously as an effective risk manager.
