Job Description:
The Compliance Advisor is an important member of the Ethics & Compliance (“E&C”) team supporting Supply, Trading & Shipping’s (“ST&S”) Gas & Power Trading Americas (“GPTA”) business unit. The position is responsible for supporting the execution of the E&C ST&S compliance framework by providing independent oversight of the business, influencing a culture of strong controls and compliance, delivering training on compliance topics and providing guidance to the business to ensure compliance with rules, regulations and internal policies and procedures related to GPTA’s trading & origination business.
The Compliance Advisor will support the Compliance Director and Senior Compliance Advisor, who oversees and supports regulatory oversight of GPTA’s natural gas, power and structured products benches. The position will be responsible for understanding certain regulatory requirements and fulfilling those requirements, coordinating E&C training, performing periodic reporting/monitoring processes, building scenarios based on current enforcement actions, developing and delivering on a communication plan and leading team-wide projects. The Compliance Advisor will also work closely with bench Compliance Managers and be able to provide back-up coverage and assist with regulatory requests.
The purpose of the E&C ST&S function is to promote compliance with external laws, rules and regulations, the bp Code of Conduct, bp’s Global Trading Guidelines & Requirements and other internal bp policies and procedures, through the development, implementation and maintenance of a program consistent with the corporate E&C strategy!
Key Responsibilities:The position reports to the Senior Compliance Manager, Regulatory and is primarily responsible for developing and delivering a communication plan, understanding certain regulatory requirements and required filings, coordinating E&C trainings, performing periodic reporting/monitoring processes and leading team-wide projects.Assist in the development and delivery of training sessions on ethics & compliance related topics to GPTA’s trading & origination businesses.Conduct periodic compliance reporting, monitoring, risk assessments and reviews to ensure compliance with applicable rules and regulations enacted by external regulatory authorities (e.g., CFTC, FERC, and exchanges) as well as bp’s internal policies and procedures.Participate in projects under the direction of the Senior Compliance Manager and/or Compliance Director. Represent GPTA on cross-regional/global E&C projects.Form effective working relationships with business unit personnel – Commercial Teams, Legal, Regulatory, Finance, Technology (“IT”), People, Culture & Communications (“HR”) and other E&C regional teams to facilitate strategic alignment and support of the overall E&C ST&S program.Understand existing laws, rules and regulations impacting GPTA’s trading & origination businesses while monitoring for developments, proposals and new regulatory requirements to assess potential impacts and participate in the implementation of systems, processes and procedures to meet these requirements.Support Compliance Director with the ethics and compliance liaison accountabilitiesRole Requirements:BA, BS or other equivalent degree.3 – 5 years working in or supporting a natural gas, power and/or energy commodities trading & origination business.Proactive work ethic, initiative and creativity to achieve identified goals, both individually and as a standout colleague working in a fast-paced environment.Ability to manage and lead projects, sometimes multiple efforts simultaneously.Analytical problem solver.
