The Compliance and Risk Management Analyst supports all initiatives and projects of the Legal and Compliance Department and assists with maintaining system-wide operations of high significance, including legal, accreditation, regulatory and risk management. This position is responsible for supporting St. Peter’s Health compliance and enterprise risk management efforts, including but not limited to operational responsibility for the contract management program; policy management program; risk financing renewals and coordination; policy/contract training to SPH Leadership; and loss control coordination and activities. Additionally, this position helps ensure accreditation requirements relative to this department are compliant.
Claims Management: Serves as liaison between patients, providers and staff to investigate and resolve legal claims. Serves as ongoing point of contact with patients/families. Collaborates with Corporate Compliance Officer and professional liability insurance carrier in strategic management of claims handling, which may include medical bill adjustments, resolution letters, and early claims resolution/settlement. Coordinates the legal claim investigation process in collaboration with defense counsel and insurance carriers, including but not limited to assisting with discovery, scheduling information gathering and preparation meetings in response to subpoenas, depositions, etc. Participates in professional liability risk management advisory group meetings and projects, as applicable. Project Management: Facilitates addressing recommendations, findings and objectives from: Insurance broker strategic assessment / gap analysis Professional liability risk assessment SPH Corporate Compliance and Risk Enhancement Work Plan Risk Financing: Assists with annual insurance policy renewal applications across all system lines of coverage. Notifies broker of newly acquired assets that may need coverage. Requests certificates of insurance in response to contract provisions. Triggers insurance coverage with applicable carriers in response to an event. Contract and Policy Support: Assists with maintaining a contract management program that supports our quality and delivery of care, metrics for success, financial stewardship and compliance with DNV standards, ultimately contributing to St. Peter’s Health becoming the gold standard. Handles new contract intake from SPH Leaders and ensures completeness and accuracy of data. Helps ensure necessary risk assessments, business associates agreements, network access agreements, and exclusion screening are completed as applicable. Ensures consistent policy formatting and timely, appropriate content review and approval per document control policies. Tracks and reports upcoming and overdue policy review to SPH Leaders. Provides SPH Leader training and ongoing assistance to ensure timely contract and policy reviews, gathering objective data for high risk contracts, etc.KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE: Five years experience in a legal support, healthcare operations, database management or combination of relevant experience required. Knowledge of regulations/laws related specific to healthcare preferred. Experience in general clerical duties; computer/software skills; and data systems knowledge required.
EDUCATION: Bachelors Degree required. Alternative combinations of education and experience may be cosidered on a case-by-case basis.
LICENSE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRY: Certified Professional in Healthcare Risk Management (CPHRM) required within one year of hire.
