The Composite Design Engineer, working under the direction of the Engineering Manager with minimum supervision, is responsible for the design and analysis of parts, tools, and assemblies to meet customer requirements.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
• Work within cross-functional teams to design composite and metallic parts and assemblies to meet customer specification requirements.
• Design the manufacturing processes and tooling needed to fabricate parts and assemblies to meet customer requirements.
• Create and review CAD models and drawings to define design requirements.
• Applies principles of Advanced Product Quality Planning and Lean 6-Sigma to produce optimal, manufacturable product designs.
• Support initial fabrication and hand-off to manufacturing.
• Support product qualification, which may include analysis, in-house testing, or sub-contracted test facilities.
• Create, run, and post-process Finite Element Method (FEM) models using Abaqus software. Models may be linear, non-linear, static, or dynamic.
• Support Preliminary Design Review and Critical Design Review presentations and associated reports.
• Other duties as assigned.
• Minimum of Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related technical discipline. The ideal candidate will have a Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related technical discipline.
• 1-3 years of engineering experience is preferred.
• Outstanding analytical and technical ability.
• Ability to work well within cross-functional teams and within a manufacturing environment.
• Ability to translate analytical and theoretical concepts into practical, hands-on solutions.
• Must be able to read technical drawings, bills of material, and related documentation.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Familiarity with GD&T per ASME Y14.5.
• Experience with FEM methods and software, Abaqus preferred.
• Experience with CAD software, SolidWorks preferred.
