Working as a Composites M&P Technician you will support the materials qualification effort leading to the development, certification, and production of eVTOL aircraft. The role requires composite fabrication and laboratory experience. The ideal candidate will possess the ability to work with minimal supervision.
Responsibilities Interpret and work to a variety of engineering drawings and specifications for the fabrication of a variety of composite laminate and bonded composite panel typesLayup of prepreg composite panels, including sandwich structuresStructural bonding of cured composite laminate panels – including hybrid joints, using various types of two-part epoxy adhesives as well as single and two-part sealant materialsMold prep and maintenance of tooling plates, caul plates, panel bonding fixtures, and a variety of hand-tools used for composite layup and adhesive bondingUse of a variety of calibrated dimensional inspection tools (including calipers, calibrated scales, micrometers, etc.)Interpreting and working to a variety of ASTM, SACMA, and MIL-SPEC standards for a variety of material characterization and development testsResponsible operation of electromechanical test frames, test fixturing, thermal test chambers, environmental conditioning chambers, and relevant software on testing workstationsUse of dimensional inspection equipment to record and present specimen dimension data prior to testingPerforming calculations in both standard and metric unitsMaintaining a clean, safe, and organized workspaceFollowing all Joby safety procedures, including all OSHA regulations/requirements Required Minimum 3+ years of composite fabrication experience (additional experience working in a materials lab or aviation/aerospace setting is highly preferred)Minimum of High School diploma or equivalent (an Associates degree or equivalent trade certification in composites is a plus)Strong math skills and a knowledge of engineering documentation, drawings, and models (understanding of and familiarity with GD&T)Ability to read and operate inspection equipment including calipers, micrometers, height-gauges, microscopes, and scalesBasic knowledge of prepreg composites and material properties (including twill and uni-directional prepregs, paste and film adhesives, and honeycomb core)Ability to lift >50 lbs. unassisted and stand at work station for extended periods of time (>4 hours), not including meals and break timesMS Office Suite and general computer skills (experience with multiple types of test equipment software is a plus) Desired Excellent technical aptitude and analytical skillsExperience working in a materials qualification setting is highly preferredA fundamental understanding of composite test standards and common failure modes is also highly preferredHighly developed attention to detail and critical thinking skillsExcellent verbal and written communication skills‘Problem-solver’ mindset with a willingness to learn and collaborate effectively with other team members
Compensation at Joby is a combination of base pay and Restricted Stock Units (RSUs). The target base pay for this position is $24-$27/hour. The compensation package will be determined by job-related knowledge, skills, and experience
