We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Composites Manufacturing Engineer to join our team, focusing on the production of high-performance aircraft propeller blades. The successful candidate will bring expertise in composite lamination, resin transfer molding (RTM), and structural adhesive bonding to optimize manufacturing processes, ensure product quality, and meet stringent aerospace standards. This role will involve close collaboration with cross-functional teams, including design, quality, and operations, to drive innovation and efficiency in composite manufacturing.
Responsibilities Develop and optimize manufacturing processes for composite lamination, RTM, and adhesive bonding, ensuring efficiency, repeatability, and aerospace compliance. Create CP/Fibersim definitions, producibility assessments, and 2D engineering specifications, including plybooks and lamination drawings. Draft and review manufacturing plans and work instructions to align with design requirements and company standards. Conduct Design for Manufacturability (DFM) reviews and support the release of engineering part definitions. Provide lifecycle support for components, from prototype development to final acceptance, including repairs and modifications. Establish standards for manufacturing, repair, and assembly of composite parts based on industry best practices. Address manufacturing challenges, resolve non-conformance issues, and implement corrective and preventive actions. Develop and execute FAA certification test plans, collect data, and produce performance validation reports. Analyze and resolve manufacturing non-conformances using root cause analysis (5-Why, Fishbone, etc.) and implement corrective actions. Perform statistical process control (SPC) and data analysis to monitor and improve process performance. Design and specify molds, fixtures, and tooling for composite manufacturing processes, including lamination, RTM, and adhesive bonding. Work with vendors to procure, test, and validate equipment. Resolve tooling and equipment issues to reduce downtime and maintain production quality. Work closely with design engineering to ensure manufacturability and alignment of part designs with production capabilities. Collaborate with quality, operations, and supply chain teams to meet production schedules and customer requirements. Train production personnel on composite manufacturing techniques, safety protocols, and process standards. Required Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field. 3+ years of experience in composite manufacturing, including hands-on work with lamination, RTM, and structural adhesive bonding. Strong knowledge of composite materials (e.g., carbon fiber, fiberglass, resins) and aerospace manufacturing standards. Experience with CAD software (e.g., CATIA, SolidWorks) for tooling and fixture design. Experience conducting PFMEAs and writing manufacturing work instructions Proficiency in manufacturing process analysis tools (e.g., FMEA, SPC, 5-Why). Familiarity with industry standards such as AS9100, NADCAP, and FAA regulations. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Excellent communication and teamwork abilities to interface with cross-functional teams. Attention to detail and a commitment to quality in aerospace manufacturing.
