Job Description:
Essential Responsibilities:Collects data according to The Joint Commission, CMS and MassHealth specifications for the Core Measures. Compiles data into reports for analysis by various departments and committees and acts as liaison between clinical improvment teams and the MassQIO, QNet system and others to interpret standards and specifications.Uses queries for existing internal and external databases for comparative analysis. Provides technical assistance and education to various staff in the departments participating in The Joint Commission, CMS and MassHealth Core Measures re: requirements and operational definitions.Collects data and prepares reports required by State specifications for performance measures. Collaborates with Patient Safety Coordinators and principle quality contacts (QI Directors) re: findings and opportunities for process improvement using chart review tools such as the IHI Global Triggers Tool for Measuring Adverse Events and AHRQ Patient Safety Indicator validations.Conducts Clinical Pertinence documentation reviews and work with clinicians/department heads to provide "just in time feedback" and develop education strategies relative to documentation content improvement. Collaborates with QI Project Managers in Special Studies as assigned to support process improvement (observations, spot audits, PI check backs).Participates in the development and design of chart abstraction tools for special studies and audits. Maintains organized documentation of completed reviews and chart tracking. Researches individual cases identified by payers as quality improvement opportunities. Assists in case reviews to provide supporting documentation for appeals to payers.Required Qualifications:Associate's degree in Nursing required. License Registered Nurse required.3-5 years related work experience required.Minimum of 3 years experience in clinical quality or research in an acute care setting.Knowledge of regulatory and accreditation requirements in acute care setting.Advanced skills with Microsoft applications which may include Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint or Access and other web-based applications. May produce complex documents, perform analysis and maintain databases.Competencies:Decision Making: Ability to make decisions that are guided by precedents, policies and objectives. Manager/Director provides broad guidance and overall direction.Written Communications: Ability to summarize and communicate in English moderately complex information in varied written formats to internal and external customers.Oral Communications: Ability to comprehend and communicate complex verbal information in English to medical center staff, patients, families and external customers.Knowledge: Ability to demonstrate in-depth knowledge of concepts, practices and policies with the ability to use them in complex varied situations.Team Work: Ability to act as a team leader for small projects or work groups, creating a collaborative and respectful team environment and improving workflows. Results may impact the operations of one or more departments.Customer Service: Ability to provide a high level of customer service and staff training to meet customer service standards and expectations for the assigned unit(s). Resolves service issues in the assigned unit(s) in a timely and respectful manner.
