Computational Scientist

SRC, Inc. is currently seeking a computational scientist based out of our Syracuse, NY, Arlington, VA, or Herndon, VA office (remote telework options available).  The selected candidate will perform technical in our Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear (CBRN) Services team in the Environmental Health Analysis business area.  Position will be responsible for development and integration of chemical property estimation, hazard prediction modeling and simulation, and cheminformatic software to characterize existing and emerging threats. Projects are focused on development of chemical property estimation, hazard prediction modeling and simulation, and cheminformatic software to characterize existing and emerging threats. This candidate will work with a dynamic and successful team to perform CBRN hazard/risk characterizations, toxicological analyses, data analysis technical reports, and help manage development of innovative scientific decision support software tools and models for our customers.  This candidate will support various programs for the Department of Defense, Department of Homeland Security, United States Environmental Protection Agency, Centers for Disease Control, and related agencies.  This is a unique opportunity to join a dynamic and successful organization, continuing to build on SRC’s reputation as an important contributor in our nation’s efforts to respond to emergencies and to protect our people and environment. What You’ll DoModeling and Scientific dutiesDevelop and design chemical property estimation algorithms using Quantitative Structure Activity Relationships (QSARs) to elucidate hazard and risk profilesUtilize Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence techniquesUpdate and enhance knowledge management applications for CBRN purposesReview and curate datasets for incorporation into models and toolsApply data science practices in calculation and evaluation of statistical measuresSoftware Build and expand CBRN databasesCreate modeling and simulation tools and web applicationsPerform software development and integration within an agile development processSupport software lifecycle activities to include requirements development, software design, development, test, and documentationParticipate in software design and code reviews to ensure delivery of quality products and enhance skill setsPlan and conduct software tests What You’ll Bring  Bachelor’s degree with 6 years of related experience or master’s degree with 3 years or PhD degree with 0 years of experiencePreferred degrees in chemistry, chemical engineering, biology, toxicology or related disciplineApplicable training, experience, or dual degree in software development, computer engineering, computer science or related disciplineExcellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills requiredMonitor, manage and report status of technical work and project progressAbility to work independently and on multi-disciplinary engineering teamsAbility to work in a team of software engineers to efficiently implement, package and deploy a software applicationWays to Stand Out Familiarity with ISO compliant software development strategiesSoftware development experience with C/C++, Java, Javascript, and OODKnowledge of C#/Python/MySQL/Database and Matlab a plusExperience using R for model developmentExperience developing AI/ML models for scientific applicationsExperience with common deep learning frameworks (e.g., Tensorflow, PyTorch).Demonstrated understanding of agile development processKnowledge or experience in one or more of the following disciplines is a plus:Chemical property estimation techniquesQuantitative Structure Property Relationships (QSPRs)CBRN Modeling and Simulation and Hazard Prediction

Total compensation for this role is market competitive. The anticipated salary range for this position based out of Syracuse, NY is estimated at $73,000 to $84,000 annually. The actual salary will vary based on applicant’s experience, skills, and abilities, geographic location as well as other business and organizational needs.
