Resolve hardware/software problems in response to user questions and requests for assistance via a ticketing system. Diagnose the source of malfunctions, recommend corrective actions, and/or consult with appropriate staff or vendors. Configure and install computer hardware and software for users. Install software updates and coordinate with developer or manufacturer to resolve problems. Analyze computer generated products to identify source of errors and work with system developers and users to resolve problems. Recommend changes or update documentation to address system deficiencies and user needs. Train other employees in system operation and maintain system documentation and supplies. Must be available on some nights and weekends as part of an on-call rotation schedule. Perform other duties as assigned. Position Information Class Code: D071C Grade: IT03 FLSA Status: NON-EXEMPT Salary Range: $41,578.00 - $66,317.00.00 Summary The Computer Support Analyst is responsible for a wide range of activities related to computer support such as the maintenance and utilization of microcomputer and mainframe systems. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency/institution policy. Functions Resolves hardware or software problems in response to user questions and requests for assistance by diagnosing the source of malfunctions, recommending corrective actions, and/or consulting with appropriate staff or vendor. Configures and installs microcomputer hardware and software for users. Installs software updates and coordinates with developer or manufacturer to resolve problems and may analyze computer generated products to identify source of errors and work with system developers and users to resolve problems. Manages disk space for micro, mini, or personal computer system, with multiple terminals and printers transmitting data to host system, bringing system up, taking system down, and backing up system to preserve data. Researches new technology and methodology and evaluates new products to determine their usefulness to agency users. Recommends changes or updates in programming, documentation, and training to address system deficiencies and user needs. Trains other employees in system operation and maintains system instructional manuals and supplies. Performs other duties as assigned. Dimensions None Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge of the limitations and use of mainframe and microcomputer hardware and software. Ability to analyze computer system problems or errors and devise corrective measures. Ability to write moderately complex applications to fulfill requirements or select appropriate off-the-shelf software and modify it to suit the agency or institution. Ability to read and interpret technical literature and evaluate product acceptability and/or quality. Ability to manage disk space for micro, mini, or personal computer systems to ensure effective utilization of data, space, and equipment. Ability to code, test, and debug computer programs and write program documentation. Minimum Qualifications The formal education is equivalent to a bachelor’s degree in computer science, mathematics, or a related field. OR Completion of technical training in computer science, data processing, or a related field acquired from a vocational, military, or industrial setting; plus, two years of experience in computer support operations. Additional requirements determined by the agency for recruiting purposes require review and approval by the Office of Personnel Management.
