Concrete Materials Technician
Overview Summary: The Concrete Materials Technician’s primary function is to ensure a high-quality product efficiently and effectively. This position works in a fast-paced environment with a need to respond to ever changing scenarios. Work duties will be performed primarily in a laboratory with some possible field work. Principal Duties and Responsibilities: Demonstrate teamwork by assisting in other areas within the department and other departments as needed Construct, calibrate, and/or prepare test samples and test equipment Use lab equipment to obtain, prepare, measure, and collect test specimens in lab or field environments Implement alternative procedures to enhance efficiency and accuracy when appropriate Manage inventory process and levels of lab and equipment inventory Ensure lab tools and equipment are in good working order and facilitate repairs or replacements as needed Maintaining a clean, safe, and orderly work environment in accordance with company and OSHA expectations Keep current with industry technologies, skills and knowledge improving company procedures and individual growth Global Responsibilities: Regular attendance and physical presence at work is an essential function of this position This job may require additional duties not listed above and the employee may be asked to perform those duties to meet business needs Qualifications: Education/Specialized Knowledge/Professional Certifications: High School Diploma or equivalent required Associates degree preferred Knowledge of Ready-mix manufacturing design, processes, and equipment is a plus, but not necessary State DOT and ACI certification is a plus, but not necessary Experience: Minimum of 0-2 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience Skills/Abilities: Quick learner; excellent organizational skills Ability to learn and apply testing standards (ASTM and AASHTO) Ability to work in a team environment to achieve company objectives Excellent written and verbal communication skills with strong PC skills Working Conditions: Exposed to moving mechanical parts, vehicles, heavy construction equipment, toxic or caustic chemicals, and outside weather conditions Noise level is usually moderate, but can be high and requires personal hearing protection on occasion at job sites, plants, and laboratories Must be able to work through stressful situation while maintaining professionalism and composure Local travel required Flexible in work assignments; open to working in multiple areas as necessary to get the job done Physical Requirements: Regularly required to talk or hear, frequently is required to stand; walk; use hand to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms Occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl Must be able to stand and move about job sites with uneven and unpaved ground Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus Must be able to frequently bend in order to obtain samples from stockpiles or ground, climb ladders with buckets of admixtures, and push wheelbarrows of concrete Must be able to operate buttons, levers, and other controls located on various equipment Must be able to work long and flexible hours as necessary Must be able to maneuver in and around our plants, yards, and jobsites as necessary Lift/Carry up to 55 pounds frequently Lift up to 100 pounds occasionally Ozinga is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
