Job Summary

Responsible for conducting power flow analyses to support the understanding of daily congestion in power markets, management of congestion hedging rights, unit administration and operation, and study of long-term power prices. Must have a solid knowledge of transmission systems and practical experience of conducting power flow studies with planning or state estimator cases provided by a regional transmission operator (RTO). In addition, this individual must have fluent skills in a power flow application such as PSSE, PowerWorld, or TARA. Able to communicate and present analyses or studies in a clear, concise, and effective manner.

Job Description

Based on education, experience and interview, this opportunity will be filled at either title in the Congestion Analyst job family. Minimum requirements are stated for the lower grade. Increased expectations are at the higher grade.

Congestion Analyst Principal (grade 8)

Congestion Analyst Sr. (grade 7) = bachelor's degree + six (6) years of experience; OR, master's degree + three (3) years of experience; OR, may be considered as entry-level with doctorate degree or post-doctoral work at a university in the U.S.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

- Demonstrated advanced or expert-level knowledge and skills in conducting power flow analyses with planning or state power flow cases from RTOs.

- Demonstrated advanced or expert-level ability to understand and monitor transmission congestion in RTO markets.

- Demonstrated advanced or expert-level knowledge of transmission systems.

- Develop, review and present transmission studies and/or analyses under high-level guidance.

- Demonstrated ability to analyze and create practical solutions to well-defined congestion problems under high-level guidance.

- Complete projects accurately within aggressive deadlines.

- Demonstrated clear, effective verbal and written communication skills.

- Provide congestion-related support, education, and training to internal groups.

- Participate in RTO stakeholder meetings to discuss congestion issues and solutions.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Education: Minimum 6 years of experience in the field of congestion analysis or transmission study along with a Bachelor's degree in electric engineering; OR,

Minimum 3 years of experience in the field of congestion analysis or transmission study along with a Master's degree in electric engineering; OR,

Individuals with a Doctorate degree in engineering or other appropriate tech field may be considered for entry into the org at this level.  Post-Doctoral work at a University located in the U.S. will be considered to be the same qualification as a Doctorate degree.

Work Experience:

- Understanding of transmission congestion, preferably in PJM, MISO, SPP and ERCOT, is desirable. Knowledge of power markets is a plus.

- Demonstrated proficiency in the application of appropriate analytic methods.

- Demonstrated interest in problem-solving and ability to expand analytic skill set.

- Competent in at least one programming language in addition to Microsoft Office applications.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Physical demand level is Sedentary
