Construction Engineer

We are looking for a person with appropriate education and experience to join our team in Atlanta, GA serving Southeast water clients in the role of Construction Engineer. The candidate will primarily work around the greater Atlanta area and the State of Georgia. This is a fast-paced role that performs assignments working as part of a team and at times individually. The Construction Engineer will have quality control duties, will perform construction observation, and may perform certain special inspection services on water and wastewater construction projects. This position will cover various disciplines of work and levels of complexity. The Construction Engineer will work to provide insight, suggestions, and potential solutions to issues that arise and aid in expediting resolution to keep the project moving forward. As a project enters the commissioning phase, this person will be involved in witnessing equipment and system testing, and will aid in coming up with solutions to operational and equipment system issues at the various water and wastewater facilities projects involved. In this role, the person will help identify root cause of the issues at hand. This position requires the willingness to work with a broad group of Jacobs staff, Client staff, Contractor Staff, and the willingness/ability to integrate into the entire project team taking an active role in facilitating project success. The candidate should have a strong desire to learn, a passion for problem-solving, and the ability to handle multiple responsibilities at the same time. Written communication, verbal communication, organization, and detailed documentation are all paramount, as is the ability to participate effectively within a collaborative team environment. Duties and Responsibilities * Work on-site with client and contractor’s staff. * Perform quality control duties, provide construction observation, and perform certain special inspection services on construction projects (special inspection training provided to successful candidate). * Prepare and maintain necessary project and construction observation records and reports as a means of formal documentation including daily inspection reports, photo-logs, field test results, force account reports, and tracking of the contractors’ field progress against the construction schedule. * Use understanding of construction, treatment plant operations, and general engineering knowledge to perform assigned duties. * Work with and support Project Managers (PM), Design-build team key members, and Owner personnel, by providing insight, suggestions, and potential solutions to issues that arise. * Source information needed (field investigations, etc.) to effectively aid in the development of the needed solutions as appropriate. * Aid in preparation of scope of work (SOW) documents for changes in scope of work by providing appropriate field investigation data, daily report documentation, pictures, and coordinate input from required parties. * Provide progress updates as requested to internal Jacobs management. * Perform reviews of contractors' proposed percent complete(s) for line items in their applications for payment. * Monitor construction work performed by contractors to ensure contractual compliance with plans, specifications, approved submittals, RFIs, and design clarifications, as well as applicable codes and safety requirements. Ensure materials being incorporated into the project are per approved submittals and are installed using approved construction practices. * Comply with Jacobs safety policies, as well as established site safety programs. * Participate in safety training specifically related to personal and site safety and help ensure all team members' safe work practices. Interact with the Contractor’s authorized representative regarding any concerns with compliance with site-specific safety procedures and industry standards. Qualifications * 8+ years working in water and/or wastewater plant operations * 3+ years of experience working as part of a team (Owner, Engineer, or Contractor) in a key role supporting and coordinating various aspects of the delivery of projects. Preferably water or wastewater plant construction projects, or any combination of education, training, and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job * Strong written and oral communication skills * A Wastewater and/or Water Operator license * Ability to frequently walk, sit, speak, hear, lift, and/or move up to 50 lbs * Valid driver’s license * Bachelor's degree in a related field * Experience working in a multi-discipline project team, a good understanding of site safety requirements, particularly working in and around water and/or wastewater treatment plants * Proficiency with Microsoft software for preparing documents #LI-DL1 Jacobs is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer.
